CLOSED FOR JUDGING
As you may have seen in the recent Lineart Update Post , the Tokotas group is doing away with Submissive tokota lineart for all builds, but will keep the Submissive hierarchy and backgrounds. Because Submissive and Average will share the same lineart pose, we need a better way of identifying its hierarchy than just the background. Somewhat related, did you know that Alpha tokos are not required to be on the Alpha background? Yep! Some Alphas are hiding out in the Dominant backgrounds, but you'll never tell unless you actually scroll down to check out their written hierarchy status on their import.
To better distinguish between all four hierarchies at a quick glance, regardless of background, we would like you guys to come up with a hierarchy symbol system to display somewhere in the background of tokotas' imports!
ENDED: SUNDAY 08/20 at 9:00 PM PST
Contest Rules
- By entering you automatically consent to give us the full rights to your work even if you do not win so that it may be: reuploaded, recolored, edited, used off-site, used in merchandise, etc. You will be credited in all instances, however!
- No utilizing templates or any other works other than your own.
- You may create and submit multiple entries!
- Collaborations are allowed between no more than two people. Each collaborator will receive their own prize.
- In the event that we decide to ultimately combine elements from two or more entries, each entrant will receive their own prize.
- Members may not use other members' submissions/entries for any purpose without their explicit, written consent.
- The winner will receive 25 HP Tokens for a total of 50 HP (2HP per token) to do with as they wish and one PoTL (pick of the litter) slot from one of the starters below:
Submission Requirements
- Digital art only, submitted as a .psd or four transparent .pngs (no .jpgs)
- Minimum size of each symbol should be approximately 1000x1000 pixels (with little to no padding.)
- Image only; no font or watermark overlays
- You must include a minimum of four symbols to represent the four hierarchies: Submissive, Average, Dominant, Alpha (you may include multiple versions of one or more hierarchies if you just couldn't pick your favorite!)
- OPTIONAL: In addition to your full-sized image-only symbol submissions, you may include versions of your symbols displayed on any number of different hierarchical/environment backgrounds if you wish to demonstrate positioning, but it is not required.
How to Submit
- Upload your symbols in a .psd or in four transparent .pngs to sta.sh
- Comment HERE with a link to your sta.sh submission(s).
-----------------------------------------------------------
- Recommendations We don't want to box anyone in, and it is certainly possible to design the best possible symbol set on your own terms, but here are our suggestions to get you started!
- Test, test, test! When designing the symbols/icons, test them out on the backgrounds. All of the backgrounds: there are a lot of differences between each set (Snowy, Grassy, Wild, TCA) and each hierarchy (Sub, Avg, Dom, Alpha.) The Dom and Alpha are night-time backgrounds and are darker than the Sub and Avg day-time backgrounds.
- Test the symbol placement using all three builds of Tokotas: Toki, Normal, and especially Dire. Dire-built Tokotas take up a lot more space on the import background than you may think! The symbol should not cover the tokota's design. Don't forget about the Dom poses! Those tails are all over the place.
- Try to use only one subtle color. The symbol should be noticeable, but not stand out more than the Tokota's design. Sometimes complicated or intricate designs can take away from the main focus of an image.
- You can find all hierarchies of all backgrounds on Google drive, here .
FAQ
Where should the symbol be? How big?Well that is up to you as the designer, though we expect the best spot for it would be one of the four corners. The symbol should be big enough to see at a glance, but not so large that it takes away from the tokota's design, or is covered up by larger (dire) tokotas.
I thought we already got rid of the dominant symbol, what gives? We did! Sort of. The Dominant symbol (the image at the top of this page) is optional for Dominant tokotas. That symbol, if used, is required to appear over the tokota's thigh in some variation (different color, opacity, etc.) These symbols will not go over the tokota design art, although they will serve a similar but broader purpose.
With regards to future implementation: we don't know everything just now, but we can give you our best guess below!Do I have to update all of my tokotas with the winning symbol? When a news announcement is made sometime after the winner is announced thoroughly describing how to go about acquiring the new official symbols, then all tokotas from that point submitted for Design Approval or Hierarchy Updates will likely require the new symbols. You will not be required to update your previous tokotas unless you submit them for Hierarchy updates. However, you may update them when you update your tokota to the new lineart if you're so inclined!

It won't be required unless you're doing a hierarchy update/design update

Please refrain from "voting" for other people's entries as it can be off putting for other artists who would like to enter! Comments in this journal should either be questions about the contest or entries. Thanks!

They don't have to be red but they should all be the same color.

Thank you! And one more question... Must the symbols be the same ( for example if the submissive symol is one line (still example) then the average must be two?) or can they be different?

They should be visibly different, so you can easily tell the difference between a sub/ave/dom toko at a glance.

Ok thanx again and a last thing... Do i have to upload them with a background or something or just the images?

I have a question about this here: "Minimum size of each symbol should be approximately 1000x1000 pixels (with little to no padding.)"
I understand the size guide, but what is "padding"?

Empty/transparent space in between the symbol/art and the edge of the canvas. c:

right after i made these i realised they were probably supposed to be transparent :'') so i made version of that too tho i might prefer it with a bg (harder to see without/find a color that fits but idk) sta.sh/257mx9y96kq?edit=1 & sta.sh/2avspfao3jp?edit=1

Well, here goes. I kept the shapes a little rough since I was going for a hewn stone look. I picked the biggest toko that took up the most space. xD

I'd be happy to change anything if you guys want to use them but wish something was different with them. I also slapped on some basic layer effects for stylizing examples if you guys want something that isn't glaringly obvious but still easy to make out at a glance.

here's mine!
Meant to sit just to the right of the Tokotas banner on the background. Hopefully i did this right? Let me know if anything needs resizing etc.

I made the symbols different because i want people to understand the tokota's hierarchy status quickly. I also wanted the submissive ones to be more simple and as the status becomes higher the symbol becomes more "complicated"and also changees shape. If the link is wrong please tell me cuz im not so used with sta.sh

An entry; sta.sh/21avp9smxvc8
Each circle symbol is meant to represent the Tokota while the base line represents is its place in the Hierarchy.
Submissive is 'below the average line', average is 'going up', dominant is 'center of attention,' Alpha is 'the rising sun.'

what i have now
(yes i reused the symbol but i think its nice and splitting it like so makes it interesting ^^)
concept of why i did this:
i think of this symbol of rocks for each rock placed shows how each tokota grows to be a respected leader
