Description
overview of Avro Canada CF-105 Arrow,a highly advanced all-Canadian design project for a Mach-3 all-weather capable interceptor for defense of the North American continent. the project was cancelled in 1959 at a very advanced stage of development,to the chagrin of many. even to this day, many Canadians in the country,s aerospace industry can still feel their blood boiling about what could have been...........! quite a shame really.Related content

Apart from the vacuform kit, yeah. There's been a couple of metal diecasts, but they're effin' awful.

Damn...that is a badass looking plane. I usually don't go for safety-cone orange, but here it looks pretty good.
So this would have pretty much been the NATO counterpart to the MiG-25/31? Looks a little more maneuverable than the Foxbat/hound. Awesome! Too bad it got the axe, it would've been sweet to fly one of these.

No kidding. Although, arming it with Genie missiles wouldn't have been such a good thing to fantasize, so maybe it's better that it wasn't finished...

Genie was a Nuke. Nukes are Bad...Canada even had their own designs for missiles to arm the Arrow with, but it all just wnet bye-bye along with the plane.

I know that Genies were nukes, that's why I said that since the Arrow would've been armed with 'em, maybe it was better that they canceled it.

What, like converting Polaris missiles into SAM's? Launching nukes from orbiting satellites?

AvroCanada did have plenty of their own ideas for special armament for the Arrow, not actually nuclear, but very advanced.

I read about this project that they've been working on for a while now, an offshoot of the whole "Genie" missile...I think it's pretty much a Genie, but instead of a nuke it carries an EMP warhead, so it would f-up controls and electronics, but there wouldn't be any fallout.

TomCatDriver In reply to Paradur187 [2008-11-27 23:45:36 +0000 UTC]
any nuke will still produce an EMP pulse. and No Nukes is Good Nukes. war is all just fun and games until someone starts tossing nukes around.

Yeah, but this one is supposed to make the EMP without also making another Hiroshima. And yeah, nuclear apocalypse is a veeeery scary thought.

if you can get a copy, read WARDAY by James Kunetka and Whitley Streiber. it ,s one of the scariest books i,ve ever read. mostly about the aftermath/recovery/lifestyle of the USA and the world after a 20-minute nuclear exchange between the US and USSR that was set in 1988. so realistically written, down to the last details of everyday life across America after Warday, and how the world power structure was forever changed, the UK and Japan became the new Superpowers. we had to spend almost all our gold reserves to totally rewire our Electronic Village due to the Soviet,s use of 3 EMP bombs in near space that just fried every electronic device in North America, and Canada hated/blamed us for it.

Another scary apocalypse book I've heard of is ON THE BEACH. I can't remember the author's name, but the story follows the crew of a research submarine in the aftermath of a nuclear holocaust in the late 1950's that wiped out all life in the northern hemisphere. To add just a hint of hopelessness to the equation, the nuclear explosions created a massive radioactive cloud, which will slowly drift southwards and kill the rest of humanity within about half a year. It's a freaky story, in a Quentin-Tarantino kind of way.

Actually 6 prototypes were built. The first 5 were using Pratt & Whitney engines as placeholders for the Iroquois engine being developed by a company named Orenda.
The sixth plane never made it off the ground as the order to scrap the project came about something like less than a month before RL206 (the "final" version) was due to take flight. The planes were chopped to bits right on the tarmac, company staff laid off, nearly all documents pertaining to the aircraft scrapped.
All that's left of them is the nose section of RL 206 in the Canadian smithsonian so yeah we're a touch sore

But you can see the child of the Arrow. A-11, A-12 how was create before Sr-71 Blackbird was some child of the Arrow plan if you look the point of vue the SR-71 is the result of evolution of technologie. Exemple technologie 1959 give the Arrow. After 20 year of evolution techologic give in 1976 the A-11. Them after thas SR-71. If you have chance to see those plan you will understands what i mean. And just like Gibbs in NCIS i don't belive in coincidence.

I me by mist date but half of the staff working on the Arrow was hire by Lockeed how built the Black Bird and all caracteristic of the Arrow was in the A-11, A-12 and the Black Bird. Don't forget the other part of staff was hire by the NASA and Boing. Those for NASA work on the Appollo project.
