Description This mother and fawn Mule Deer kept a close eye on me as I slowly approached them.

It was interesting to watch their reaction's as they decided if I should be perceived as a threat. Deer use their great sense of smell, their great eye-sight and even better hearing to keep themselves safe from the many predators they face in the wild.

This is just one of three fawns this mother must keep safe, the other two not far away out of this frame.

You're welcome, and yeah that's awesome!
My mom has gotten to feed wild deers before. And, they even had two baby deers for a short while. She was nursing the deers back to health, feeding them, etc., b/c their mom was shot during hunting season. So, she rescued them, took care of them, then released them into the wild.

Thanks, the sunlight reflecting off of the mother's eye makes them look alive.

Wonderful capture! The deer in my area are constantly being pushed out to make room for more parkways.

I like their faces, and love how focused the mother's face is. =]
PS: Merry Christmas!

Unfortunately their great hearing, eye sight, and sense of smell do not protect them against cars...

Hey, I changed the file to a different crop... let me which do you like better?

I've never seen a whitetail, only in pictures. I love Deer though, I got a pic of a HUGE buck I'll post soon so keep an eye out.

Pheonx23 In reply to tourofnature [2007-12-20 20:37:35 +0000 UTC]

I like that you are able to see more of their body, but the older shape was more visually appealing, but you simply CANT leave out that big chunk of space!
it balancesss T-T!

In my honest oppinion, you should upload differant crops of this picture into your scraps and hold a poll.

Thanks, I've never done the scraps thing.

I'll look into, but I think that's a great idea, I've had some other photos that I really had a hard time deciding on which crop to post, glad you mentioned the scraps thing.
