The weather was gorgeous, and it was absolutely a welcome change after that particularly harsh (and abrupt) winter. Some things still lay in shambles--a building here and there still bore some damage, a few scattered bits of rubble--but no longer anything major, or particularly devastating. Things did appear to be looking up.
Though there was the matter of the Creeping Forest. It had sustained a fair bit of damage during Sorbet’s rampage and was currently looking....well, dead. But the guild heads never fail to have solutions for such things, and the moment the issue had been brought to light, so had the apparent stockpile of saplings and seeds and the like.
And that, naturally, was where the faithful guild members came in. They didn’t quite know how saplings and seeds would save a dying forest, but if the task of planting them put berries on their table, then so much the better.
And that is how the rag tag group of boys came to be hauling various plants out of the former Tao Ranch and over to the forest. The older ones carrying the heavy things--flats of tiny new plants, potted flowers, Junior had even managed to tote around a small sapling on his back; and the younger ones the lighter equipment--shovels and rakes and such, Bandit had tagged along and specially selected a packet of seeds which he would be exclusively in charge of. The tiny Bagon had never looked so proud.
They (being the young boys they were) laughed and joked and jostled one another all the way to the edge of the forest. Living situations at Merlot’s castle--while generous--had grown crowded and stifling, and the lot of them were excited to be out from behind its walls.
As they reached the perimeter of the forest, they joined the throngs of other guild members who had showed up to help plant. The turn out was actually rather impressive, especially considering members of all three guilds were working along side one another, more or less peacefully. The boys set aside their joking (most of it) and struck off to find a bit of land yet to be planted.
