Description
Robomusume
Intro: One of the brightest minds of FATHOM’s early years was an eccentric and highly motivated man by name of Dr Shinzô Mafune. In many ways, he was far ahead of his time in the fields of synthetic biology, marine ecology, and robotics. He helped design several specialized FATHOM vessels and craft, and pioneered work in deep sea kaiju location, tracking, and infrasonic communication. Unfortunately, his was the type of genius that did not work well with others, being especially adamant and controversial on his theories of biomanipulation. His most contested argument with other leading staff members was on the further exploitation and salvaging of ancient technologies both of paleolithic human ruins and especially of the even less-understood tech of the mysterious Mahars.
This fixation grew outright obsessive after a tragic family accident took the lives of his wife and daughter. He became reclusive and secretive, working remotely from an estate purchased in California and all but retiring from FATHOM. Communication with him was sparse but grew increasingly strange and erratic, as he claimed to have been conducting personal experiments and expeditions. Former acquaintances grew worried at his mentions of a “body”, a “black stone”, and “they who fly by night”. Soon after these wildest letters, in 1975, all communication abruptly ceased.
An investigation was sent to the secluded abode, but found no trace of the estranged Doctor. Waiting within the lab, though, was an inactive humanoid robot, and, most forebodingly, a Mahar. The winged being made no comment of the Doctor’s whereabouts, but stated that he had taken something of theirs. But, as he was “especially crafty for a human”, under its’ present condition they were unwilling (or unable) to reclaim it, and so were content to let the humans keep it for now. When asked what the object in question was, it proceeded to activate the robot and provide a brief demonstration/warning of its’ full potential. The resulting incident was one of FATHOM’s tougher challenges to cover up, as the legend of the “Attack of the 50-Foot Woman”, as the tabloids had reported it, never quite died away…
Story: Upon being returned to a more conventional human size, the robotic being was retained by FATHOM. As “her” intelligence developed and proved to be docile and compliant with regulations, she was granted much freedom within FATHOM facilities, and her extensive sensory and calculative abilities proved quite useful. Eventually, “Robomusume”, as she would come to be called, was considered a valued researcher by many staff members, and she would serve diligently for several decades. She herself was subject to much scrutiny, especially in regards to her unique physiology. The metamorphic gigantism of her initial containment in particular was heavily theorized, though she never displayed such a feat again. According to her, she had no memory of its’ functioning, nor, as time went on, any desire to replicate the experience.
This lifestyle would come to and end upon the invasion of the Morlocks and their utilization of Godzilla, Kong, Rodan, and Anguirus alongside M.O.G.U.E.R.A. war machines and hybrid Guilala packs. As the nations of the world desperately scrambled for plans after initial attempts to drive off the invaders failed, FATHOM, and Robomusume in particular, received a most unexpected visitor. A Mahar, identified as the same individual present at the robot’s recovery, greeted the humans and offered startling and revealing information…
It explained that the Morlocks’ primary targets were not of human origin, but ancient sites of Mahar activity. At these places, so long ago, when the then-decadent Mahars had thought themselves gods, they had attempted to create living kaiju vessels of their own design to carry out their wills. But the native Earth gods were having none of it, and actively began to wipe out the pterosaurs’ cities. Even their own creations proved too volatile to fully control, and only contributed to their demise. In the end, they managed to seal away the remaining blasphemies in time to halt the chaos.
But now it seems history was about to repeat itself once again. The Morlocks had evidently gotten wind of the legends, and were seeking these very creations as well as the means to control them. For the Mahars had forged…devices (a crude analogy, but similar enough) whose intended purpose was to activate and orient the artificial monsters. Colloquially calling these objects “Power Stones” for the humans’ sake, the Mahar acknowledged that ancient humans had made similar attempts in the forms of the idols of King Caesar and Pulgasari, but were not nearly as influential as theirs could be.
They had attempted to ward off the invaders themselves, of course, but the Morlocks were now employing the one thing the pterosaurs’ minds could not overcome; the raw power of the kaiju. Under the control of M.O.G.U.E.R.A. and Guilala, the four Earth monsters were being used to amplify a deafening psychic wavelength, somewhat like biological radios, to cripple the Mahars’ mental powers. Now, they had no choice but to ally themselves with humanity, and to that end, proposed a plan of action…
For there was one recovered Power Stone that the Morlocks were as-yet unaware of, and this was, in fact, Robomusume’s primary power source. The Mahar had imposed a mental block upon the robot’s CPU as to the stone’s true nature and function to prevent her or the humans from utilizing it. They had hoped their initial demonstration/warning would suffice and that they would simply reclaim the stone once its’ host had ceased to function, as it had been highly integrated within the robot’s body. But now, they offered to remove the block to allow the machine to take full advantage of its’ power in this crisis. Though they implied it could be done forcefully, they seemed to hold an odd respect for the vessel of one of their former possessions, so preferred to grant the chance to choose willingly. And so, despite many concerned protests, Robomusume agreed…
Afterwards, a plan of assault was coordinated between FATHOM and several of the most able nations to infiltrate the largest occupied base; Mt Fuji, Japan, guarded by Godzilla himself. As the military drew Godzilla, the Morlocks, and Guilala’s attention, Robomusume was deployed and engaged the resident M.O.G.U.E.R.A. unit. After a difficult battle, she managed to tear into the machine’s circuits and subdue it with a virus obtained from a Morlock defector. Then, after analyzing and processing M.O.G.U.E.R.A.’s controlling radio language, she used her own body to broadcast a great blast of cleansing frequency across the world.
The effect was nearly immediate. The remaining M.O.G.U.E.R.A. units and Guilalan hordes became disordered, and the four Earth kaiju under their control seemed to experience a wave of pain before collapsing… They awoke moments later, confused, and angry. Godzilla became especially violent, destroying everything in sight. Robomusume managed to hold him off just long enough to allow the humans in the area to escape, but it was too late for her. Godzilla soon overwhelmed her and prepared a final blow, all the while the humanoid robot continued to broadcast a distress signal…
Abilities: Mechanically speaking, Robomusume is remarkably advanced, especially given the date of her supposed creation. She is capable of the full range of motions an average human can perform, carried out via a very refined framework of interconnected servo motors, which has been carefully studied to provide blueprints for possible future robotic applications. This framework is protected within a “skeleton” of metal plates and supports, which include a variety of Rare Earth Metals. The molecular structure of these alloys continues to perplex many engineers, and suggests a degree of unknown craftsmanship possibly borrowed from Mahar methods. An equally puzzling “fluid polycarbonate” forms the basis for the outermost dermal encasement, granting added protection for her internal systems and a more human-like façade.
The most essential and poorly understood part of Robomusume’s structure is her power source. The core of her chest cavity is occupied by what the Mahars have referred to as a “Power Stone”, and appears as an ovoid, black, stone-like object. It is believed this is what the late Doctor was referring to during his manic final months, though how he came to possess it, or where it was discovered remain unanswered. Simply speaking, the object seems to represent an analogy to the theoretical “pocket universe”, whereby an enormous amount of material is stored within an extradimensional cavity. Faint traces of leaked radiation have been detected from the Stone, suggesting this inner-space may be something like the interior of a star, wherein new elements and materials are formed as needed via fusion or fission.
As with most things pertaining to this object, even the mechanism by which it interfaces with the rest of her physiology are uncertain. However, it seems to have to do with a network of tubes that circulate throughout Robomusume’s body, and which appear to originate from within the Stone itself. These tubes grant her added flexibility and, like arteries, distribute nuclear-generated electric energy throughout her systems. The tubes themselves appear to be synthetically biological, rather than mechanical, and correlate with some of Doctor Mafune’s later experiments with cultivated kaiju cells.
While normally used for self-repair, the most profound effect of Robomusume’s Power Stone is its’ ability to expunge a great deal of its’ internal mass, again via the tubes, to allow its’ host to attain a far greater size. Even at a maximum height of well-over 200 feet, Robomusume maintained a high degree of coordination and agility. In combat, she was able to employ various wrestling and martial arts techniques, often combining them into hybrid fighting styles to suit the opponent and situation.
Occasionally, she was able to divert a surge of power from within the Stone into her arms or legs, significantly increasing the effect of her strikes. As a final resort, a massive amount of this energy could be released as a thermoelectric shockwave, emanating from the nodules scattered across her body. This was most effective in temporarily stunning enemies, but was also a heavy drain on her reserves and gradually began to destabilize the Power Stone itself over time…
Character: Robomusume’s computing system was as fascinating, if not more so, than her purely mechanical nature. As with much of her body, her CPU seems to be a blend of both highly refined components that would’ve been available to her creator at the time of her assembly, implemented with reverse-engineered techniques somehow acquired from Mahar technologies. She was able to process much of the same sensory information as human’s could, though her sense of touch was limited to her hands and feet. She also possessed thermal sensors, enabling her to keep track of temperature and trace heat signatures.
She seemed to have been imbued with a basic learning and interactive algorithmic program, which has only grown more complicated over time as she has lived as part of FATHOM’s staff. This seemingly natural development has never yet been replicated in any other program, all the more remarkable given how she seems to have easily passed the Turing Test.
Though awkward and at times uncanny at first, Robomusume, sometimes nicknamed “Robby”, cultivated a rather agreeable “personality” over time. She was predominately docile, almost shy, but very positive and most staff appreciated her willingness to listen to them when needed. Her interest in kaiju evolutionary biology may have been natural or was possibly a relic of her creator’s programming, but either way she made for an excellent researcher. Only when asked of her earliest impressions during her initial activation did she display signs of distress, as it was apparently a very traumatic experience, hence her initial reluctance in returning to such a state.

This marks the first time an "Unmade" character will be appearing in the series, in the form of the "Robot Daughter"/"Robomusume" of the unmade film "Bride of Godzilla". Considering this idea was proposed quite early in the series, had such a film been made, it would've marked Robomusume as among the earliest Mechs, or Giant Robots. As in our reality that honor goes to MOGUERA, it just seemed fitting to me for them to go up against each other.
Also, looking into how her movie would've played out, there's something familiar about a giant humanoid robot made to battle a variety of equally giant monsters eventually culminating in it descending into a world below the Earth and exploding to take out the ultimate antagonist. Kinda reminds me of that one 2013 movie about a giant humanoid robot made to battle a variety of equally giant monsters eventually culminating in it descending into a world below the Earth and exploding to take out the ultimate antagonist... Well, that's probably just me...
