This caught me immediately because I can readily identify with the character.

He is obviously starving and far away from home or anything hospitable. The pain and shock of his situation appears to have mellowed into a general gritting of the teeth and acceptance. Despite all of this, I do not see hopelessness alongside the despair. He is still looking up at the scorching sun and seems more disappointed in the suns treatment of his situation than his situation itself. If he were completely dejected I imagine his head down and posture slouched.

Beyond my impression above I really enjoy how very bright and harsh and dry your yellow and sandy orange comes through. The style of the person is what imagine to be intentionally course and a little vulgar but not so much that I think he is ugly or a monster. Myself not being the most knowledgeable about the digital side of art, I get the impression the background is real with a digital character overlay, whether that is the case or not.

I really enjoy this piece both because of an ability to identify with an emotional statement and because I actually think of hunger and thirst when I see it.

Thank you for your critique. You're actually the first person to ever actually give me a critique so thank you very much for that! The whole idea came about through mindless doodling after a particularly hard shift at my work and I just drew how I felt that day. The whole thing is digitally painted except for the initial line art.
