I really like this guy's outfit and sword! As for how he's holding that big ol' blade up, it doesn't necessarily take a lot of muscle to lift it. It might just be possible to find a pose such that he's using a bit more counterbalance. If having a loose grip like he is in this pose is meant to show part of his personality, you could still have it so that he has a few unoccupied fingers. One arm would have to be close to his core (lower chest/upper abdomen area) and gripping the hilt as close to the blade as possible. The other would be free to more gently hold down the other end of the hilt, since there would be a bit of lever mechanics going on.
