"Dark Crystal" is my favorite children's movie. I grew up watching this. I was notorious for watching it and then rewinding it to watch it again. Some of the scenes still remain fresh in my head. Just recently I watched the movie, having finally purchased it on dvd. I don't think the vhs tape could handle me watching it one more time. Kira has to be my favorite heroine of all time. She wasn't too naive, and nor was she too tough. There was something about her that gained my respect right away. I also love the Gelfling race. They remind me so much of the Elven and Hobbit races from Tolkien. So having rediscovered the movie I was inspired to draw a piece. With some tips from I managed to get what I wanted. I still think I need to make her wings a bit more transparent, but I was happy to get the contrast in the picture. I wanted to make her look "fair" so I felt a dark background would help achieve that effect. So now my hands are all nice and black, but it has to be one of the darkest pieces I have done with a 2B pencil. I think my drawing teacher Mrs. J would have been pleased to see that.
