Description
*EDIT* I am a terrible person who missed the bit at the end of the book where Wendy talks about what color the fairies glow. Girls glow white, Boys - Mauve and those who don't know what they are glow blue ^_^ Soooo, changed the fairy dust to match what she is ^_^ The gold had to go.______________________________________________________________________________________-
Merry Christmas, those of you who celebrate! If you don't, Merry December 25th ^_^ (From the Fuuuutuuureee ahaha time zoooness).
Anyway, here is a little Xmas present from me to all of you. A close up of Tink, colored! I wanted to draw Tink actually doing her job, since we don't see much of that (seeing as pretty much all of the versions left that part out). So here we are, Tinkerbell the Tinker!
I used Paint tool sai, and I've been working on getting a copic marker effect. Hope it looks ok ^_^ Added the fairy dust in photoshop.
Enjoy!

They talk about the fairy colours in the sequel as well. Btw, have you read the sequel? There's always been this one thing that bothers me about the sequel, the shadows... in the original, you can fly without a shadow, but in the sequel, they can't, this annoys me, but I love the rest. Your thoughts???

You mean Peter Pan in Scarlet? I utterly HATED that book. Like, with an undying passion. It was not nearly clever enough to be up there with Barrie's work. If it had just been any old sequel, that would have been fine, but since they made it the OFFICIAL sequel, I dunno, that ruined it for me.
The whole Hook part of it, I just hated that. And they did some reallllllyyyy weird things with Peter's character. It's like they wanted to get away from the whole Disney fluffy aspect of the story and made it SO SAD and so MELANCHOLY. I love the original because it's lighthearted, but the topics and subjects it mentions are kind of dark. (like Peter being "heartless" and all, isn't a sad thing, it's just a THING). It felt like it just sucked all the magic out of the story.
I think that most of the sequels suffer from the "MUST MAKE IT DARKER" syndrome. Most of them are retellings that make the Darlings abusive, or some stupid stuff like that, because NO child would EVER go off an adventure if they had good parents (I mean really, I had a great childhood, and I'd have dropped everything for a year or two of adventures).
Ahaha, sorry, I really don't like much of the other Peter Pan literature out there, aside from the Starcatchers series ^_^ Most of it is just adults over analyzing the original story and who don't remember what it's like to be a kid and is trying to pretend that they do.

No I understand. I'll be honest, I quite like the darker side of it, I agree it goes too far the other direction from the disney version, but there are some good parts. The fights are very well written, but yes, Peter is too dark, I think that was the only version where I didn't like Peter very much. Also, I have to admit that after reading some of the other possible selections for official sequel, I'm seriously shocked 'Scarlet' won. There are some other sequels that are amazing, but didn't have any Hook in them, so obviously the editors were like "Nope, get lost!!!"
OMG yes!!! I love Starcatchers, it's great and it works so well with the original. I've only actually read the first three books, but I want the rest soon. And what you said is so true, adults do over analyse it way too much, I'm sorry to say that even I've managed to do it once or twice in my own sequel... yeah, I quickly changed it once I realised. In all, my relationship with 'Scarlet' is one of love and hate. *shrugs*

Yeah, that was the other part >_< It's like, no kid can really be that dark. The magic to Peter is that he does dark things and is kinda creepy at times, but it does it with a smile and childish innocence. Scarlet made it all like, emo teenager, which is NOT what Barrie wanted. And I heard there were so many other better ones too >_<
Yeah, I haven't read the last two, I think ^_^ Need to find time! >_<
I didn't even realize everything that was in Barrie's version the first go around, and not even on the 15th go around. I'm STILL discovering things! Not to mention, I now hate the first 9 pages of my chapter one as it's not at all accurate to the book, and I'm KICKING myself for not going with what the BOOK actually said, rather than the traditional WENDY TELLS A STORY opening. UGH.

Exactly, no one wants the protagonist to be a depressing emo teenager... oh wait, twilight. But seriously, Peter is supposed to be a child. I can't remember which one it was now but there was a beautifully written sequel that kept so perfectly to the original, it should have been the official one for definite.
Eugh, I know what you mean, well sort of, I don't have work - I'm still in college, but the point still stands, I have no free time. I do like the beginning of this manga though, it's lovely. You can always go back and go with the original for the book, right?

AHAH, well, there's a reason those books are trashy
Yeah, it falls into the trap that most Peter Pan books try to go which is "OOH DARK and CONTROVERSIAL" Or whatevs ^_^
I was thinking about that, though there are a few things that just don't work in comic form, which is why I did it the way I did (for Mrs. Darling to find out about Peter.) I was going to add in an extra chapter about Mr. Darling and Mrs. Darling that I left out, and then perhaps, part of Peter in Kensington Gardens ^_^

The amusing thing is, the versions that keep to Peter's original personality are the controversial ones now.
Yeah, some parts might be a bit difficult to adapt, but I guess that's the case with all adaptations, which is why films leave out so much I suppose...
Ooh, I'd like that, I can't wait for the print of this.

Which ones are controversial? I mean I know that Disney misses the mark mostly on Peter, but the 2003 one was pretty close... that one is controversial? ^_^;;
Yeah, I understand that movies are limited, but to be fair, the animated version should have been able to go so much closer to the book, but it's the farthest from the book. My comic version gives me a lot of freedom, as I have no set schedule on when I'm finishing, and I'm just plodding through the book, so I can put in how ever much works ^_^ I didn't realize this until after chapter 1, so when I do the print book, I'm going back into chapter one and adding in 11 pages of stuff I left out ^_^

Well, sequels and so on that keep Peter's personality seem to be very rare, and yes I suppose the 2003 version, because it kept quite close to the original, is somewhat controversial. ^_^;
This is true. The animated version could have done so much more, but then, it's disney, and while I love disney, they have a tendancy to put their own unique spin on things. I'm really looking forward to adding your comic to my collection of treasured Peter Pan lit and memorabilia.

huh, I guess since I was so happy it was so close, I never saw it as controversial ^_^;;
Yeeeeeeeeeeah, sometimes I like their unique spin, but when they practically change everything (I've stated at one time that I can count everything they got right on one hand) then it's not really Peter Pan anymore. Especially since I watched a video of the making of, and they spent the whole time saying that they wanted to do justice to the book, and that Walt loved the book and the play... and then right after that, they tried to claim that Skull Island was in the book.... >_<
Great! I can't wait to get it out for you all! ^_^

What gets me the most about the Disney version is that they didn't even get Hook's hook on the right hand, it's such a stupid mistake to make. I haven't actually watched that video, but that is ridiculous. It's actually funny.

TriaElf9 In reply to bloodtrinitypulse [2013-03-03 03:14:39 +0000 UTC]
I only saw it once, a very long time ago, and I thought it was a well done movie, as an alternative Peter Pan telling. However, it only works if you agree with Disney's version where it's Neverland that keeps you from growing up, rather than the original book and play where it's only Peter who stays young. So, it's a good movie ad I enjoyed it, but it doesn't really fit in with the original story, or Barrie's version of Peter, especially if you know what inspired him to write the original story. (granted, most versions of Peter Pan nowadays draw more from Disney than Barrie's version, so there's not much that can be done there ^_^)

Well, true, though the book was also made for kids, it's just that the US can be a lot more panicky when it comes to what's "appropriate" than other countries ^_^
Well, they may have seemed dark, but if you've read the original fairy tales that they came from, they're sooooooo many shades milder ^_^ Little Mermaid for one (not to mention that the Grimms lightened them up a lot from the original originals ^_^;; ). But fairy tales have gone through so many iterations, it's not surprising they've changed over the years, and as long as the message stays true, I don't tend to worry much about how they do it. That's another beef with Disney's Peter Pan, they changed the message and added messages where there weren't any ^_^;;;;

and the thing of us being more panicky is really trueXD especialy compaired to places like japan as a prime example XD
