Description
So occasionally I run into new differences between everyday things here and in the states, and other days I'm reminded of those differences.
Usually it's just little stuff like eggs come in sets of 10 here, and not 12, butter usually comes in tubs and not sticks (kids are baffled when you tell them "a stick of butter" is a thing, You must stop and look both ways before crossing the train track (something you do NOT do in CA where I learned to drive, so that took time to beat out of me). and medical expenses are mostly covered by insurance (national insurance for most people) that often I'm sure they made a mistake on my bill ^_^;;
So yeah, some little fun tidbits, hope you find them interesting! ^_^

my brain is complaining to all hell about stopping at train tracks without a barrier down and I don't even drive.
but then again, we have like 5% the amount of trains Japan does over here in the Bay.

Hmm, we barely have sticks of butter here in the UK, and paying for the doctor at all seems weird... feeling you on the eggs, the fact that they were all the same shape and size weirded me out no end and I would only buy the irregularly shaped, more expensive ones.Β

I mean, it's barely paying for the doctor for me, someone who was born and raised in the US ^_^;;
The shape of eggs varies here, but there are M size and L size, and those cost different.

It seems Japan is a lot like Germany lolΒ (well except for the medical bills since we usually don't pay anything at all). This is the first time I've heard of those things and I'm confused xD. I mean why would you not stop at train tracks ?

To an American, 400 yen or less a trip to the doctor feels like nothing lol ^_^;; And medicine is covered really well here too.
I'm not sure? The driving test guy said it was b/c it disrupted traffic, and maybe because California is a bad traffic state?

In Denmark you don't stop at train tracks unless a signal indicates that a train is coming (which are both flashing lights and sound). Only few places in the country do not have signals, but there you just slow down a bit, since they usually ensure that you have very good visibility and the trains blare their horn

North Carolina doesn't REQUIRE one to stop at Railroad crossing, but it is highly RECOMMENDED in the Defensive Driving course. Although, North Carolina doesn't really have high volumes of rail traffic.

Right on reds varies as well, so I wouldn't be surprised. I think it'd also changed when I took my test b/c I remember something about it, but I dunno.

Ahah yeah, my sister says it's the same in Ireland, and it's tough to bake. I have that with measuring butter for SURE lol ^_^
