Oh how far we have come...Black Shuck (Yes, like the English dog of myth) the main villain of a story that I made way back when in the land of middle school. (Same one as [link] and [link] )

The family had long been associated with a phantom dog with a broken lance through its mouth and five drops of blood. According to legend one of their ancestors had a faithful hound that followed his master around wherever he went. after a long night of carousing, he was kept awake by his dog, which would not stop howling and barking. Unbeknownst to him, the dog was trying to warn him of a wolf prowling around outside but the noise so infuriated him that he ran through it with a spear. And whenever a Baskervilles died, a black dog would appear at night. DONE!

I think, more correctly, that is how the legend is portrayed in "The Hound of the Baskerville's" but the legend is actually much older, like pre-vikiing. But that is what this character is based on, yes. There are also Latin American interpretations of the "Black dog/Barghest" legend from which he also borrows slightly.
