Description
“Log date 7 17 2: Steven has shared with me some of the details regarding the Crystal Gems’ expeditions to the ocean floor in search of Malachite. it appears as though the last few sweeps have produced little results. I do not understand why but this news has left me feeling… hollow. For some reason I find myself venturing out of the Crystal Temple and down to the shore of Beach city and catch myself lost in thought staring at the blue waves of the ocean. Truthfully such a sight is one to marvel at considering the terrain and climate of Homeworld and the kindergarten I was made in. However the view is slightly soured knowing that Lapis lazuli and Jasper are somewhere in that bottomless mess. I must find why such feelings are caused at the thought.”Peridot clicked the record button off on her tape recorder. Sighing, she gripped into the sand around her, staring out at the rolling sea.
“Peridot? What are you doing way out here?” The green gem’s attention was driven towards the new presence on the beach with her. Steven had managed to walk all the way up to her from the porch of the Crystal Temple Home without her noticing and peridot mentally kicked herself for being so unaware of her surroundings.
“Oh, hello Steven. I was simply entering a new log and staring out at your ocean.” Peridot answered, laying the tape recorder next to her and curling her legs to her chest.
“You seem to do this a lot, are you ok?” Steven sat down next to peridot and joined her in watching the waves. The sun lowered towards the horizon and reflections bounced around in the water like shimmering jewels caught in the tide.
“Yes, I simply find it more satisfying to stay here to watch the water.” Peridot didn’t look at Steven but answered as truthfully as she could.
“Is it because of what i said about Lapis? You know Garnet and the others are looking really hard for her…” Steven leaned back slightly, “Malachite, Lapis and Jasper, they have to be out there somewhere.”
“Yes, I believe you’re right. Though…” Peridot looked away and tucked her hands under her knees. a gesture Steven recognized that she did instinctively as a way to protect herself.
“You’re worried about them, right?” Steven shifted himself to face Peridot. The gem nodded slightly. “I am too, you know?”
“Lapis told me about how you repaired her gem, it’s how she was able to make it back to Homeworld.” Peridot said smilingly slightly. “She may not care about this earth like you or me but she seemed really fond of you. it made the trip here somewhat less stressful.” Peridot felt a burning in her chest and lightly placed her hand over where the feeling was.
“Is something wrong?” Steven asked with a hint of worry.
“No. It’s just that…” Peridot paused and looked at Steven “ Steven, do you know what it would mean to feel certain ways when you think about someone?” Peridot only asked this of steven because as of her time spent on earth he was the only one she really trusted to teach her in the ways of this planet. If she was trapped her she might as well learn what she can, learning was just another part of being a technician.
“Well that depends,” Steven looked up at the darkening skies, “Do you feel happy, sad, or angry?”
“It’s mostly sad.” Peridot replied, staring out at the sea again. “I feel like the times I could talk to Lapis, mostly when jasper wasn’t bossing me around, that i had finally found someone i could be more open with. Like you, Steven.” Steven sat quietly, watching the waves with peridot once more. “Now whenever I look at the ocean I think of her, and it makes me sad. It reminds me that i want to see her smile again, or watch the way she made her wings so full before she just… gave up.”
“Well then I’d say you feel lonely. You really liked lapis and now that she’s not here you feel sad and lonely. My Dad says he feels that way sometimes about mom.” Steven replied getting up from his spot. “it’s getting late so I’m gonna go back inside but you can stay out if you want.”
“I’ll only be a little while, Steven.” Peridot stayed out late that night watching the ocean tide rise and fall before deciding to go back inside.
The next day Steven rushed down the stairs of his room to the bathroom where peridot resided, carrying a small gift in his hand.
“Peridot, I got something for you, may I come in?” The door cracked open slightly, before swinging open entirely, with peridot inquisitively staring at the box in his hands.
“What is that?”
“Well I know how much you said you missed Lapis and while the gems are away looking for her I decided to make you this music box!” Steven said excitedly “It plays a tune that reminded me of Lapis and if you want i can teach you how to sing along with it. This way when you’re out there staring at the water maybe you’ll be a little more comforted by the music. That’s what’s always helped me calm down when I got sad.”
Peridot stared at the box for a moment. she reached out to hold it and, in the process, activated the melody inside it. Already she felt happy listening to the tune play. The soothing sound of music was something Steven had introduced her two while working on the Cluster breaking drill back at the barn.
“Thank you… Steven.” peridot clung to the music box and studied its design. many water and ocean related things were carved into it such as sea shells and coral and other sea life. “I would like to learn the lyrics to this song.” Steven loaded the song on his phone and played the lyrical version. peridot and Steven spent many hours learning the song together until he was certain peridot could handle it on her own.
Later that evening, Peridot sat along the shoreline watching the sunset and the waves roll by. She started up the music box and began to hum with the intro.
Somewhere~
Beyond the sea~
Somewhere waiting for me
My lover stands on golden sands
And watches the ships that go sailin'
Somewhere beyond the sea
She's there watching for me
If I could fly like birds on high
Then straight to her arms
I'd go sailing
Peridot craned her neck to the now shimmering night sky and the thousands of stars that flickered above. She stared off at homeworld’s galaxy, thoughts filled with one day being able to return not as a traitor to be smashed, but as a reformed and inspiring gem, Lapis at her side
It's far beyond the stars
It's near beyond the moon
I know beyond a doubt
My heart will lead me there soon
We'll meet beyond the shore
We'll kiss just as before
Happy we'll be beyond the sea
And never again I'll go sailing
During this portion of the song was the solo, built masterfully into the music box’s design. Peridot reminded herself to thank Steven yet again the next time she was able. Peridot felt herself begin to drift off, Sleeping was new to her but Steven recommended it as a way to be more like a human, if only to feel as they did. She fell asleep with the music box playing and was soon found and carried back home by Garnet, who giggled at such an adorable sight.
Deep beneath the waves of the earth’s oceans, where light barely reached, a malformed and twisted beast lied chained to the ocean floor. It appeared to struggle at times and others go completely still. inside the creatures’ tumultuous being a thin Blue gem chained herself to what appeared to be a flat surface of water. Struggling, she began to hum and relaxed her muscles enough to not wear them down as she held the chains in place. Slowly, quietly she began to sing the trail end of a song she remembered hearing while stuck inside of the mirror as a cracked gem.
I know beyond a doubt, ah
My heart will lead me there soon
We'll meet (I know we'll meet) beyond the shore
We'll kiss just as before
Happy we'll be beyond the sea
And never again I'll go sailing
No more sailing
So long sailing
Bye bye sailing

Beautiful. Your really talented :3 I think something that might help to make you writing more understandable is adding commas at the pauses. But you write excellently and you got Peridot and Steven perfectly on character
