)Surreal picture I drawn on my desk a very long time ago at home with just black ink on maybe 3x3cm total picture. It somehow made enough interest to catch my imagination, and I've wanted to make this lone (...fish?) ever since. People, my advise to you is to keep your doodles, it really is a source of ideas.

Looks like a cross between a coelacanth and a turtle, it does. How very marvelous indeed.
Beautiful compositional work, I think--the very fine details of this creature's body imposed upon a blank and empty canvas of watery space brings out the best in both.

First off, I had no idea what a coelacanth was until this comment, and I must say they look amazing on photos. Second, I feel flattered
Oh, also, may I ask if my creature looks big or small? I have shown it to my friends and they have the impression that's it's slightly the size of an seal or maybe a whale. I have no idea to bring the size closer to a fish (since that's what I had in mind when I made it), and since you are obviously more experienced than me, can you try and give some quick solutions on how to shrink it?

Well, you could always put something huge in the background, ne? The giant silhouette of something we all know of... say, a diver or a... sea... turtle *creative genius [/sarcasm]* in the background would do nicely. Scrapping those semitransparent black panels on either side of the fish would also make the expanse of water around it more intimidating and the fish itself a bit smaller to the viewer.
Er... and I guess making the creature's eye bigger would also shrink it... animals of a greater size usually have smaller eyes, and larger irises always imply youth and petite builds. However, since that would involve mutilating the anatomy of the subject matter itself, I'm not too keen on pushing that last suggestion.
