Description
There is some contention as to whether or not this is a statue of a Prothean or just a statue on a Prothean planet. Given the recent video and concepts, I think it is safe to say that it is not actually a Prothean. My naming system comes from what the files themselves are called.Mass Effect, Protheans (and whatever these things really are) © BioWare/EA.

As far as I remember, Javik said that his race, the original Protheans, subjugated other races which in turn were called Protheans as well. This explains the discrepancy between the beings depicted on the statue and the official protheans from ME3, which became the Collectors.

it doesn't explain why shepard sees these squid faced aliens in the prothean vision in the prothean beacon.
These were supposed to be protheans.

Y'know a question that probably will never be answered is what the hell did the Reapers do to Ilos? And why are whats left of the people statues sitting in chairs? Back when I first played ME1 and these things were called Protheans I always thought the reapers did some sort of area effect over their world that turned it all rusty and crap.

General consensus is that it is the Inusannon, the race that lived on Ilos before the protheans.
I'm not sure, personally, it could be a number of different things. It could have been a species that set up the statues in the remnants of the Inusannon buildings during the time of the protheans. There's not much other information on the statues specifically.

The Prothean vision says it all.
Squid faced aliens in all the vision that are 99% the same as these statues.
The prothean didn't knew about the Inusannon.so that's a kinda stupid retcon

I was thinking it may have been one of the slave races under the Protheans.
The Protheans as Javik appears were ther leading species and this could have been the native species of Ilos before the Protheans took control.

This is Inusannon - race before Protheans. They were about 125k years ago. The Protheans discovered ruins on Ilos and it led to their discoveration of Mass Relay Network.

That would be my assumption from what Javik says.
Though, I still find it odd that they resemble husks.

this statue got me thinking. when they revealed Javik in Mass Effect three, we knew what protheans look like. that brings up the question, what the hell is this thing?? Javik said that there were intelligent beings around before the protheans, could this be one of them?

Perhaps a species that joined the prothean empire willingly, a conquered one?
Or is it possible these were the Zha'til that Javik mentioned his people were fighting until the Reapers arrived?

Glad to know this is not an actual Prothean Would be weird. Now I can imagine how they really look like with the info I've found.

Well, as other people have said, this could well have been a Prothean; just not as BioWare envisions it after all. Its description is in the wiki article , and they apparently won't allow speculation - which is funny when I think about it, since no one really knew what a Prothean looked like up until a while ago, the entire article apart from the codex text is speculation. Also, the file extracted to make this render is called "Prothean_Statue."
I'm still not sure what to even think about the Prothean, to be honest. It sounds a lot like Last Of His Kind .

Thank you for noting the hypocrisy of the ME Wiki. I love using that site for lore information, but the hypocrisy of the admins and staff (it's speculation unless we declare it canon) disturbs me greatly.
Anyway, keep up the good work!

Yeah, I thought the same months back when I first played ME1. But then the wikia said something else about A Prothean and then I got the Mass Effect universe art book and I almost revealed a spoiler for myself about ME3. So i kind of know what will happen in ME3. That art book just came in too early for me XD

Well, given the recent concepts, I'd say, that it WAS a Prothean, but Bioware simple doesn't give two f*cks about consistency in their own games.
Either way, good job.

You could well be right. Such is the "artistic licence," though. We will have to wait and see.

Well, there's a reason I like to cover my ass by stating "This is an alternate universe" for all of my Mass Effect fanwork. Protheans look like this in my universe. *shrug*

I admit there is some merit to the "Protheans looked like Collectors" camp, but purely out of selfishness, I think Collectors are too damn chitiny. I like aliens where I can draw them without spending half an hour on each one's face. u_u;
