Description
“Dante come back! What’s wrong?” The young Zigzagoon called out, but Dante had already sped out of earshot. Ophelie let her ears sink. “I wonder what happened.”“Dante?” Denarii chirped, confused but unable to use more words to express herself. Why was that nice and familiar Pokémon suddenly sad and gone? She just couldn’t understand.
Florin, however, felt a sense of success. He had guessed that Dante knew Denarii in her past life. He was right all along! And what’s more, Dante would more than likely know how Denarii’s past life ended. Not only could he learn about his Sableye daughter’s past from this Emolga and help raise her to understand it, but… he could learn what kind of fate she befell. That alone sent shivers up his spine in excitement.
Farthing frowned and stared at Florin closely, not liking the situation one bit. Hesitant, Farthing suggested, “Well, let’s not stand around. Let’s try to find him.”

Dante the shiny Emolga finally found a suitable tree to perch in, far from the ground and others. He landed and quickly clung to the trunk of the tree, fighting his confused emotions. Emotions? He had buried them deep down ages ago! His trembling paws tore deeply into the tree bark as he tried to come to grips with this information.
A Sableye called Denarii in a rouges team had guessed his name without even meeting him. She seemed happy in his presence and had strange similarities to… to his one friend. Sure Sableye were ghosts but… she couldn’t really be his friend from all that time ago, right?
Dante grit his teeth together and leaned his head against the tree trunk, fighting himself. If that was true and the Sableye really was his friend… what did that even mean? What would happen now? How much did she remember?
The deep-mustard Emolga closed his eyes and thought back to when he first met her, when he first met Penny.
I’ve never had a great life, but I’ve made do with what I’d been given. After I escaped from the terror of Prismatic Jungle, I decided to find last remaining family member I knew of; my Pachirisu uncle, Rinaldo, in Steel City. For being my only family, he was a terrible Pokémon. He was a grump and cared nothing for me, offering me room and board on the condition that I got a job.
Steel City turned out to be a terribly unfriendly city. I thought the terror of the Prismatic Jungle was bad, the City proved to be a new, terrifying kind of oppression: hostility. I stopped by several places and sent in applications in the vain hope that an outsider like me could be accepted.
“You seriously think you can survive in this joint?” One Flaaffy sneered at me behind his counter, his expression emblazoned in my memory. “You’re an outsider and a shiny at that! Get out of this place and never come back!”
After receiving no luck time and time again at the businesses and pressure from my uncle to get a job, I just snapped and attacked a jeering Pokémon. I let loose a shockwave at the contemptuous Galvantula, knowing full well it wasn’t effective. I was fed up with their hostility and in the Jungle force was the way things were done.
My efforts didn’t help me at all as I was quickly thrown out to the street. I splashed down in a puddle in the middle of the pouring rain. It was dark out, though the electric lights cast a few beacons of illumination. I was defeated, depressed, and frustrated. I wanted to cry out and attack things, but all I could do was to stare angrily at my rippling reflection in that muddy puddle. I hardly heard the rain falling or the Pokémon walking on the streets, undoubtedly whispering about how rotten and decrepit I looked.
Everything was terrible. Was this quest even worth continuing? What did it matter if my last family member lived here? I was fed up with it all! I even wondered if the horror in the Jungle really was so bad compared to the emotional tension I was under in this Arceus-forsaken city of technology.
Then the rain stopped falling on my head. I could still hear the rain falling but felt none. Confused and defensive, I looked up to stare into deep navy blue eyes of a Pikachu. My eyes fell quickly to her large bucktooth and dopey smile. She was holding out her white and pink frilly parasol over me, shielding me from the downpour.
That small act should have warmed my heart but I was still too wrapped up in my woes.
The Pikachu offered a friendly smile, her large eyes closed in mirth. She didn’t say anything, just wanted to be nice.
I stood up in the puddle and gave her a small glare. Why was she doing that? I didn’t need her help! I look back and wish that I could have acted nicer to her, but I was stressed and a bit naïve.
“Are you alright?” The Pikachu said kindly, her voice betraying a hint of a Jipangese accent and a lisp.
“I’m fine.” I growled back quietly with the intention to leave her there and be back to Rinaldo’s house. I had had enough for one day anyway.
“You don’t look fine. Did those Pokémon hurt you?” She looked at the store I was thrown out of and made a pouty face. “You meanies!”
I started walking away. She saw me as a victim. I wasn’t a victim and her pity made me feel even weaker. I survived the Prismatic Jungle! I could handle myself!
“Hey wait!” She exclaimed and caught up with me, holding the girly umbrella over my head once again. “You shouldn’t walk home without an umbrella. What if you catch a cold?”
I ignored her and continued to walk away from her, gaining a little more speed. At this I was tapped rudely on the head by her umbrella. I whipped around and gave her a smoldering glare, refusing to say anything to her.
She acquired a rebellious expression, though it was hard to take seriously with her huge bucktooth. “Stop being so tsundere! Baka desu!” She scolded, sounding like a silly school girl rather than serious.
I broke my silence and growled lowly in confusion, “What does that even mean?” I was sure she was insulting me.
“Sorry, I got angry…” She said, going back to a nervous expression. “I speak Jipangese like my parents do but I also know Taolish. First generation Tao-ite!” She made a peace-sign before remarking in embarrassment, “Sorry, I can get carried away. Here, you can take my umbrella. You’ll catch a cold if you don’t!”
“I don’t want your stupid umbrella.” I droned and tried to keep walking away.
She wasn’t to be deterred. “Then I’ll walk you home.” She offered another dorky smile. “By the way, you’ve got pretty colors. You’re like a… like a…” She frowned thoughtfully and tapped her large tooth.
My efforts at repelling her were going to shambles and I was about to give up on the entire notion of getting rid of her. At least Rinaldo’s place isn’t all that far away. I thought to myself.
She finished her thought with a bright smile. “Yeah, like a hippowdon. You know; the male ones. The girls are all grey and stuff. Or maybe like an electabuzz or a tauros. I haven’t seen an Emolga of your colors around before.”
“Thanks a bunch.” I murmured unhappily. I’d already heard enough remarks on my shininess to suit me for a lifetime.
“But it’s so cool. You’re special.” She chirped. I didn’t take her word seriously until I saw her face. She was insistent and almost a little sad. She looked down and said, “And special Pokémon, though they might be different from the normal Pokémon, aren’t alone.”
I stayed quiet all the way back to my uncle’s house, protected by the lamentable girly umbrella.
Before I could enter my uncle’s house, the Pikachu slapped her head and proclaimed, “Hey, I never asked your name!”
I didn’t think we’d ever meet in the future and didn’t really care about meeting her again, though she seemed kind of like good company. I mean, she had said my shininess was nice. “Dante.” I replied.
“Dan-Tay~!” She sang and winked an eye at me. “I’ll remember! And you can call me Penny!”
I nodded and turned to the door. I hesitated a moment and looked back to see her walking the same way we had come. I watched her stroll back, the lacy umbrella bobbing with her steps. She had backtracked all the way here for me…
“Dante! We found you!” Ophelie’s voice sent the Emolga back to the present.
Dante shook himself and looked down at the ground. The rogue team Maundy Money and his teammate Ophelie was staring up at him. The Sableye… Dante stared intently at the young Pokémon again. Surely she wasn’t really Penny.
“Are you alright? You seem distraught.” The older of the two Spindas, Florin, called up. This Spinda… he was the Sableye’s caretaker.
Dante still had so much to think about and understand, but perhaps hiding in a tree wasn’t the best location. He lifted up his thin wings and glided back down to the ground where he was greeted by the happy Zigzagoon. Ophelie was always so full of enthusiasm and energy; it brought back a few positive feelings to be in her presence.
Florin took a hesitant step forward. “So… are you alright there?” The Sableye called Denarii scampered up to Dante and chirped his name once again. The bow-tied Spinda saw this as an opportunity and asked, “You said her past name was… what again?”
The shiny Emolga stared at the darkness Pokémon. She seemed to be Penny. How else would she be able to guess his name? And that little snaggletooth seemed too similar to Penny’s bucktooth. He heaved a sigh and said quietly. “She’s a lot like… Penny.”
The Spinda found this amusing. “Funny. I know a Penny back at our village. I was under the impression that currency names were mainly our clan’s thing.” He grew a little more serious and said cordially, “I don’t mean to upset you, Dante, but as Denarii’s caretaker I am curious about her past life.”
Dante nodded slowly. “I suppose that is understandable. You care for your…” Daughter? Penny having this Spinda as a father? It felt too strange for him to say. “Er, your charge.” What could he say? “Penny… I knew Penny back in Steel City for a while.”
“So she is from Steel City. That might explain why she stared at the machines in Alomomola so much.” Farthing said with a strange forced cheeriness. Dante quickly caught on that something wasn’t right. That young Spinda had shown himself to be always happy, what put him on edge?
“Can you tell us more?” Florin said calmly.
Dante looked the Spinda in the swirled eyes and said quietly. “Penny was a Pikachu… she was… a friend of mine.”
“I thought you didn’t have any friends, Dante.” Ophelie said bluntly but in curiosity.
“But then she died…” Florin said with concern.
Dante caught that sense again, that something wasn’t right. The Emolga kept his expression the same but started to feel uneasy at Florin’s statement. “Yes…” He certainly didn’t want to think about that, not after all he’d been put through already.
“I’m so sorry; it must have been a terrible loss.” The Spinda replied, though that strange sense of danger still hung about him.
“I don’t want to think about it. I still have a lot to accept…” Dante said evasively. “I just need some peace and time. When I feel better I’ll be sure to help you as much as I can.” He looked at the baby Sableye and continued, “Penny was… a dear friend. I wouldn’t want to abandon her. Rest assured, Florin, that we will meet again.”
Florin’s ears fell in disappointment but his expression stayed the same. “I understand, Dante. I don’t mean to pry…” That strange sense of foreboding didn’t lift from Florin despite his calming words. Dante couldn’t place why he was nervous quite yet, but he didn’t like it. And yet… could he just be jumping to conclusions? Denarii/Penny was in good paws, right?
The shiny Emolga got to his feet and began to saunter back to the village, to familiar territory. He glanced back to see Denarii waving her clawed hand and calling out his name. He allowed himself a tentative smile before plunging back into the woods, Ophelie dashing after him.

Collab between and me! She wrote the amazing story and I did the drawing.
It seems Denarii did have a past life! And she was one of Dante's only past friends. Will she recall anything else from her past? Look out for that in the near future!

Thanks!
I do recommend to not ask people to watch you, it's usually annoying and they won't really feel like doing it.
