You know when I was up there doing my panorama, I was actually thinking of climbing on top of it to take some pictures from a slightly higher perspective, but there were a bunch of teenagers sitting in it smoking, so I decided to let them be.

I had to sit around waiting for the tourists to leave to get this shot. Seems a tour bus brought a group up there for coffee and Danish. Have to admit it was a nice place for a morning break.

Yeah, a lot of my friends took prom pics there in high school.

So here's a crazy story...
Addam and I went up to Kerry Park on the night of the 4th after the fireworks to take pictures of the Space Needle. Since it was dark, we were doing long exposures, my longest being about 20 seconds. Well, I got home and started looking through my shots, and on the longer exposure shots, even though it's dark, you can make out the silhouette of Mount Rainier! I thought I was hallucinating, but sure enough, I sent some shots to Addam and he confirmed it (that you could see Rainier, not that I was hallucinating). Anyway, thought you'd find that interesting.
This is a great shot, and I think Rainier definitely adds to it. I'll have to add this to the list of shots I want to get now!

Thatβs cool! Glad you were not hallucinating. It is a great view for that park.
Form where did you watch the fireworks? Did you brave the traffic around Gasworks Park?

No, we didn't go to Gasworks. We parked on some street in Queen Anne, hoping to get a spot on the bridge. We walked down and they had the bridge closed to pedestrians. So we ended up walking down to the Swedish Cultural Center instead. It was still a pretty good view, and not nearly as crowded!

Yeah, I have no idea how far it was...it wasn't bad at all, especially after the hike up to Lake Laura earlier that day! Not terribly far, but quite steep. Needless to say, we were pretty worn out!

I can imagine. Did you guys get some good shots?

Think so! Both at the lake and the fireworks. The view of Mount Rainier was awesome from the lake! Well worth the hike, even if there had been no waterfalls.

Thank you...I do wish it had been a clearer day so Rainier would have shown up better.

Is it my imagination, or does the roof of the Needle change colour every so often? This orange hearkens back to the original colour in 1962...

Yes it changes color often.
This year for the Needle's 50th birthday this year they went with the original "Galaxy Gold"...orange as it is.
