To be quite honest, they look fine in my opinion. The ones in the show are kinda small.
But that's just my opinion.

Oh, sorry. I just meant wings from the show in general. Horses (or ponies) are relatively heavy, so their tiny wings kinda irk me when they fly, because it looks like they shouldn't be able to fly.
That's just me though, lol.

Dr. X: These are ponies, not horses. They are much lighter than horses. Also, the ponies of Equestria seem to be much leaner than the equines on Earth, hence why they would be much lighter.

I know, I know. They still seem too heavy though, weight/wing-size, in my mind.

I like to think a combination of hollow bones (like birds) and Pegasus magic keeps their weight down enough to fly.

Sometimes I like to believe that they're just extremely lightweight. Light enough for them to stay on (their world's) clouds, but heavy enough to not get blown away by a simple breeze. By what means makes them light? I don't know. Maybe hollow bones like you said? Probably that and a couple other factors.
