Description
Caution! Scenes of GID (guys in distress) portrayed below! Thank you for your understanding.++++++++++++++++++++
Sunlight shimmered through the paneless windows, shining brightly onto Jay’s face. The young boy muttered a little as he rolled over in his tiny cot, not at all keen to wake from his slumber just yet. Not even a gunshot was going to make him get out of bed right now...
BANG!
Well, he didn’t mean it quite that literally.
Jay groaned as he promptly fell out of his cot, hitting the floor below with a painful thump. However, he made no effort to scramble up to escape the shots ringing out below, nor did he even try to see what was going on. He just lay there, locks of untamed flaming red hair defying gravity as his dull grey-blue eyes stared up at the cracked concrete ceiling of the grubby and bare room he called home. The crack of gunshots was part of daily life, nothing to be stunned about. He would probably be way more concerned if the first thing he heard that day wasn’t the sound of some innocent citizen getting shot in cold-blood. Tilting his head slightly, Jay looked out of the so-called window towards the sky, the blue heavens partly obscured by the many iron beams supporting the glass Dome high above. The morning sunlight glinted off the metal, making the boy squint. Yes, there was no better way to start the day in the Dome than with some good ol’ screams of terror.
The 14-year-old sighed quietly and heaved himself up from the floor, trotting over to the glassless hole in the wall and peering out of it. He caught sight of a young man, probably in his early twenties, yelling against a white cloth knotted and tied through his mouth. Two men, clad in black military uniform and crimson blindfolds, held the struggling man’s arms behind his back as one of them snapped a pair of handcuffs around his wrists. Jay couldn’t exactly hear what was being said, as the Keepers were snickering amongst themselves. However, he had a good guess about what was going on. The man had been caught doing something ‘illegal’ by the Keepers, and now he was being towed away to who knows where. The so-called illegal act probably wasn’t much of a big deal to begin with; maybe the man had been staring at the Keepers for a second too long or had stuck his tongue out at them. Of course, that was enough reason for the black-clad military men to arrest the man on the spot, and not before taking a threatening shot at him in the process.
The arrested man looked around him desperately, no wonder trying to find someone who could save him from his predicament. Jay could hear his muffled pleads even from where he was standing. But no one came to help the young man from the Keepers. The street, usually brimming with people on their way to work at the factories, was completely deserted. Not a single person was in sight, except for the gagged man and the two men in the crimson blindfolds.
That moment, the man looked up, and just for a brief second, their eyes met. Jay’s eyes widened. It was as if the young man had mustered his every being into that one look.
Help.
Jay pulled away from the window like he had been electrocuted. He bit his lip as he slid to the floor and hugged his shaking knees. He hated himself for hiding away, for letting cowardice control him. But he couldn’t risk his life for a man he didn’t know. He hated the Keepers just as much as anyone in this Dome, but that didn’t mean he could stand up against them. The Keepers had guns. They could kill him just with a single pull of the trigger. His life meant too much to him.
He heard a series of thuds, like something heavy falling against the ground. Then there was silence. Jay wondered if the Keepers had finally dragged the man away. However, to his surprise, what he heard next was a familiar voice.
“The fuckers. You okay, man? You’re not hurt anywhere, are you?”
Jay immediately scrambled to his feet and leaned out of the window.
And indeed, there was Raven Kuina, his two-year-older friend, pulling the gag out from the young man’s mouth and unlocking the handcuffs around his wrists. At his feet were the two Keepers, their military coats fanned around them as they lay on the ground, unconscious.
The black-haired boy looked up as if he sensed Jay’s eyes on him. Seeing the red-haired boy, he grinned and waved. “Hey, Jay! Come on down and help me tie these fuckers up!”
Jay blushed as the young man also looked up at him. He instantly felt the overwhelming guilt for not going to help him when he had so desperately called to him. But he couldn’t ignore his friend either. So he quickly pulled on his overalls and hurried downstairs onto the street, pushing aside his urge to make a break for it so he would never have to see anyone ever again.
By the time he reached his friend and the young man, Raven had finished cuffing the two Keepers. He had cuffed each man’s arms around the other’s torso, effectively binding them together.
“What? Everyone loves a challenge,” Raven said with a smirk as he pocketed the keys to the handcuffs, as well as the Keepers’ radio transceivers. “Let’s see how they’ll get their back up like that.”
Jay took a deep breath as he walked up to the man, who was rubbing his wrists. “Uh… are… you, okay?” he hesitantly asked. He winced when he saw the angry red marks on the man’s skin, left by the tight handcuffs and the man’s desperate struggles.
“Yeah, I’m fine. Thankfully this guy came in before anything got too bad.” The man gave Raven a grin. “I owe you one. They would have probably killed me if you hadn’t saved me. I’ve never seen anyone take down two Keepers so swiftly!”
The black-haired boy looked up from where he was gagging the two Keepers with their crimson blindfolds, and grinned back. “Well, it made a great excuse for getting at them Keepers,” he laughed cheerfully as he mercilessly tightened the red cloth around one of the Keepers' mouths with a yank. “The fuckers are the worst.”
“Can’t disagree,” the man nodded. “You think I’m allowed a little kick at them?”
“By all means, go ahead.”
As the man proceeded to give the Keepers a piece of his mind, Raven brushed his hands off and came over to Jay’s side. “So, you doin’ okay?”
“I’m... not so sure,” Jay replied, his face in a constant grimace as he watched the game of human football unfold before him.
Raven was also observing the young man having his revenge, but unlike Jay, he had a smile of great pleasure on his lips. “How so?” he said as he pulled a face at a particularly well-aimed kick. "Oooh, that's gotta hurt."
Jay hesitated, rubbing the back of his neck, then let out a little sigh. “Never mind. It’s nothing.”
Raven raised an eyebrow, but didn't push the matter any further.
Once the man had enough with the Keepers, the three dragged the two bound men into a rubbish dump in an alleyway a few hundred metres away from the place of the incident. They didn’t want them coming back too soon.
“Hey,” Jay said, tapping the shoulder of the man as the three made their way out of the alley. Raven was walking ahead of them, humming cheerily while he tossed the keys for the handcuffs into the air. “I'm so, so sorry for not helping you when you needed it. I was a coward.”
The man looked surprised by this sudden apology, and after a moment of silence, he chuckled kindly. “It’s fine. I know I would have done the same thing if I had been in your shoes.” He looked over at Raven and shook his head with a laugh. “Coming in with a flying kick for the first Keeper and a knife-hand strike to the neck for the second. Your friend is seriously one of a kind.”
“I know,” Jay smiled. “He’s great.”
They reached the main road and stopped to say their goodbyes. The young man and Raven shook hands as the man thanked him again for his help. Then he came up to Jay. He ruffled the boy’s messy red hair, and whispered with a smile, “Whatever you do, make sure you never let him go.”

So, first chapter of a new project! And first picture to go with it! I am already questioning myself why on earth I chose such an angle.
Anyway, for those who are wondering, Kawasemi is Jay, and Kuina is Raven. In the original MV, they are portrayed to be around the age 7 to 11 for the first half, but due to some pretty obvious reasons, Jay is 14 and Raven is 16 here.
Hope you enjoyed! Thanks for reading.
(Based off of Neru's Jailbreak . Characters belong to Neru and Sidu)

this comment's coming a little late since i read this when you posted it, but i wanted to take the time to soak it all in
first the concept is AWESOME! that music video got me all pumped up and i'm super excited for the story
your writing is just wonderful- the portrayal of fear and action has me grinning, especially those little things with character interactions.
not to mention that background- you deserve a billion compliments! that's such a hard angle and you really pulled it off! the metal beams and the cracks in the infrastructure set the scene perfectly
all around, this first chapter is amazing. phenomenal work <3

Thank you so much, this being my first attempt at writing on DA, I'm really happy you took your time reading this!
The music video is great isn't it, Sidu is such a great artist and animator, I can't even make my work as half as cool as theirs! But it really works as great inspiration
I'm still not really that confident with my writing, so your compliment means a lot to me! I used to write A LOT a few years back, because I was really desperate to find something that was special to me, to find a hobby that I could call my own. But my writing never improved much, and I was really depressed when I found out that my other classmates wrote much better than I did, so I guess the hobby just naturally faded out. But reading my past works, as well as reading others' on DA has really inspired to take up writing again, so thank you so much for the inspiration your works have created!
I would go both ways for the art on this one. I really like the concept, and I know I won't change the idea if I were to draw it again, but you know that feeling when you draw something you think is REALLY great once you finished it, and then you leave it for a few days, and the next thing you know you notice all those strange perspectives and little spots which look really weird and almost drives you crazy?? That's it for this piece. But overall I'm happy with it, so let's leave it at that
Again, thank you for reading! You really help inspire me with your work

Such a dynamic angle, you did a really good job with it! And I love the story so far, two boys against the terrible military-esque reign, fighting back when they can, it's definitely a favorite plot point of mine in Jailbreak >w<

Thanks! Like I said, I was really questioning WHY I decided to do such a thing, but it was worth it when you say that!
Glad you like the story. I'm planning on building upon it, the MV plot itself has so much potential

That is totally fine!
Thanks for the compliment, I wasn't really sure with it... I never really try drawing at such demanding angles
