I hate flash, the worse thing in poke cristal was me with my pokes level 91 and i had to go also with a togetic level 32 in the party -.-
The worse thing is know that i had a typhlosion who can lead the way easily, or blow it up... Seriously, HMs should be natural abilities from pokΓ©mon -.-

That's why I know the path to Red by heart and can do it without flash.... But I had to study the path before learning it of course .__.

I do this on pokemon ruby, but in Crystal i just used flash and defeated him with 5 pokemon, I never leved up my togetic for some reason... This experience lead me to defeat hoenn e4 with 5 pokemon, Rayquaza was there just watching a little bored he never went out XD

theres no need for an ability but common movies like ember or anything would work too! Samething with defog, ash used whirlwind and gust to make things like smoke go away...
