The title says it all. This may be the start of a beautiful new friendship, so i'll start from the beginning.

My graphics teacher once showed us a tshirt graphic that looked almost like a convincing photo and said that it was silkscreened, and even he didn't know exactly how it happened. I kept wondering until i found out about CMYK and how it worked.

I then got the genius idea to take an rgb image, convert it to cmyk (easy task), then go into the individual channels and create a halftone pattern of each image. I thought that if you could convert each channel to line art and print it in each separate color, you could get a convincing cmyk-like print effect through silkscreening.

So after i had played around with the settings, i got the horrible idea to get creative with it. I started playing with masks and brushes to grunge up the channels. I had a better result with a pic of a rat rod that i made on a school computer, which i'll try to recreate as soon as i'm done with this.

So i guess where i'm trying to go with this is this; i think it would be cool if i could try to print a tshirt with this design. i was also thinking of taking it further, play with some typography to create a cool looking header thingy for the shirts. I'll throw around some designs but for now i'll be considering the crazy idea of how to get this shirt printed. It will take a minimum of 4 screens and probably a helluvalot of grief, and i'm not sure the colors will blend with plastisol. Then again, it might come out beautifully ugly and grungy, just how i like it.

So in case you didn't fully comprehend how to get this effect, i uploaded this as a .psd so you can go and play with it if you would like. Just remember to not steal my work, i'm trying to be nice by offering this service, at least tell me and credit me, that would be cool, ya know?
