Well, here we are with another Spectacular Spider-Man picture (sort of). Loosely based on a Marvel X-Men comic cover, this picture is even MORE loosely based on my SSM fanfic ideas. Because later on, I AM planning on the appearance of Miguel O'Hara, aka. Spider-Man 2099. And in my humble opinion, the best...nay, ONLY villain I could see them going up against is Serena Patel, the Doctor Octopus of 2099, who was created specifically for the game, "Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions". After playing the level, I INSTANTLY wanted to see more. And since she never appeared in the comics, she's essentially a blank canvas, meaning a lot can be done with her.

But what's REALLY interesting is her interaction with O'Hara throughout the entire level. Despite the fact that he has to knock her around a bit, here and there...despite the fact that she's trying to kill him, pretty much the entire time...despite the fact that she personifies absolutely EVERYTHING that Miguel O'Hara despises about the Alchemax Corporation...as you play the level, you start to get the sense that he's actually becoming kind of sweet on her. Because pretty much from beginning to end, he's constantly teasing her in a way that comes off almost like immature flirting. You know that little boy who teases the little girl on the playground because deep down, he actually likes her and he doesn't know how to deal with it? That was O'Hara to me, throughout pretty much the entire level. And the fact that Patel's outbursts in response are every bit as childish as O'Hara's constant needling just adds to that impression, which also makes it one of the more amusing levels to play. It also got me thinking that an image like this MIGHT actually happen, if passions ran high enough.

I got he pencil work completed on this a couple of weeks ago, but opted not to finish it in lieu of something simpler (I wasn't in the mood for anything too complex at the time). But then, last week, I ended up doing my 75,000-Hit Commemorative. And after the war of attrition that was THAT project, this pic seemed downright SIMPLE, by comparison. Which is NOT to say it was easy, mind you. Obviously, the arms proved to be the greatest challenge. But it also didn't help that when I did the pencil work for this pic, I was using softer leads than I usually use, causing the page to get all smudged up and requiring A LOT more hard-line cleanup than usual before I could start adding color. Luckily, I'm back to using my regular leads (which I bought a whole box of), so that shouldn't be an issue for quite some time.

In the end, here's this week's submission. Again, hope everyone likes it. I know I'm pretty pleased. And again, if this gets anyone curious about my Spectacular Spider-Man fanfic ideas and maybe interested in helping write them, so much the better. Either way, look forward to hearing from you. ^_^
