"Kairi!" Sora shouted as he ran to her. The ground quaked causing Kairi to stumble. Sora quickly caught her in an embrace. His arms wrapped tightly around her slim figure. He felt her grip his shirt pressing her body to his. He knew he only had a few seconds. "Remember what you said before? I'm always with you too. I'll come back to you..." Sora pushed back a bit and looked into her glistening eyes. Light was obscuring his vision and he could hardly feel her body beneath his fingers. "I promise..." he manged before he leaned forward and pressed his lips to hers."I know you will," Kairi whispered the instant she could not feel his warmth anymore.

I'm super happy about how this one came out! This is perhaps how I wanted Kingdom Hearts to end. xD Such a hopeless romantic! This was for a SoKai event with but I missed the deadline.

Ah. {facepalm} I'm an idiot. I swear, your alternate ending has the same concept as the end of my KH... Um... I want to say fanfic, but in reality it's more of a pseudo-literation. You might want to check it out if you're into the whole SoKai (did I seriously just say that?) idea.

And I agree, because see: some fans claim that the reason he didn't react as strongly to seeing Kairi is because he knew she had been safe on Destiny Islands, but they seem to forget that he also knew she was kidnapped by the Organization, so you'd think he'd show more relief that she was ok, considering they could've done anything to her. 0_0

Hmm, not exactly. Sora's strong reactions over Kairi's troubles was seen in Hollow Bastion when he got on his knees and begged Saix to see her. A lot of ppl forget this XD. This is also where he says he cares about her above ANYTHING and desperately wants to see her.
Axel also hinted that Kairi was only being held hostage in the dungeon and nothing bad had happened to her before he died. They were just using her to bait Sora. With this, Sora figured he could save her regardless, as he had definitely done so before.
Also, after hugging Kairi [which he didn't think would happen because he broke the promise], he even manages to thank ANSEM - the person to fucked all the shit up in KH1.
One could argue that the moments aren't as equated, but I doubt they're supposed to be compared in the first place. They are two different circumstances entirely X) I don't think it would make sense for him to cry for Kairi; she was pretty decent.

True, I had forgotten about when he begged at Saix's feet. And the rest of your points are pretty solid. I just wish they didn't give the Yaoi fans fuel for thought when he took Riku's hand and fell to his knees. Crying, sure, but they went a little far in my humble opinion. X)

Haha, it was a pretty emotional scene that's for sure xD And it did bait the Yaoi fans. However, something funny is that I watched the original Japanese scene and it's much more toned down than the English one, which was over dramatic in comparison X) Nothing changed but Sora wasn't as whiny. The whole scene literally fit better actually.
Also, I wasn't typically affected as I read alot of manga/anime and characters do what Sora does literally all the time. Japan is all about the theme of deep ties & emotional reactions such as his are pretty usual. Idk, it just didn't matter to me XD
