Some background music: [link]HMS Attacker was an American-built escort aircraft carrier reconstructed from C-3 transport ship. She served with the Royal Navy during the WWII. Participated in Salerno landing in 1943, South France and Aegean campaigns in 1944, and operation Zipper (Malaya, 1945). After that ceded to USA in 1946 and reconstructed back into merchant ship. In 1977 she was damaged and reconstructed into floating hotel, which burnt in 1979. Scrapped in 1980.

Look at the carriers listing, nearly 100 of them.
Japan built a few like them, but only some 9 or 10.

Sailors who manned them sometimes said that CVE stood for 'combustible, vulnerable, expendable'. They were also the victors in the war against the U-boats, and in the battle off Samar.
