Description
So I was drawing this for someone on some forum today. I had been lazing around about it so made sure to make it very good, good enough to actually submit on deviantart as well. The request was simply a monk with a chipmunk, so I showed my uncreativity and just made some random dude with a nice staff. I wish I was a bit better at designing original hair, this specific style has been used very often in my chars. :C
In the related IRC chat peeps were very helpful, so thanks to them if they ever appear here! (the staff-enhancements were the idea of someone on there, as well)

Why are they called chipmonks anyways...
Looks good I think with nice details and set up. And it makes sense of monks to get along with animals. Well... to me at least.

Indeed, I remember a number of monks being fed by animals and whatnot. Harmoniousness happens.

I love your grayscale/monochrome drawings absolutely stunning! ÖwÖ
For example the "Rann" drawing you submitted a while ago was so gorgeous, and then there's the ones in the "symmetry" thingie.
Like, how do you do them? though i can't draw, i'm really curious c:

Hmm.... How to explain.
Well, I start with a sketch, sometimes not even drawing all the stuff that will be there in the end (his face was just two lines and a frownymouth actually)
Then right on top of the sketch on a new layer I lay down some transparent color to give the sketch some substance. (for example, light gray on the face, darker gray on the body). I add these with a multiply layer so the sketch is still preserved. Then I just start to paint on a new layer, right on top. The magic in there is that you don't worry about the lineart - you shade and refine, and if you miss the lineart in some places you paint some back in.
Also using a brush that doesn't shrink much but allows for very precise transparency helps a lot, since you get much smoother and nicer transitions from one color to the other.
The subject matter itself just depends on your knowledge - I semi-recently (A little bit before making Rann's mugshot) studied the planes of a human face so now I remember a bit better how the jaw and cheek connect. (there is a small triangular sliver of light on the jaw under the cheek that really makes the face better for mysterious reasons. !)
