If Darkseid were in the Marvel Universe it would affect him normally, but you are right. If they are outside said universe it is basically powerless.

Yes but you forget Thanos is a terrible character who loses on purpose because the writers didn't realize a character has to have flaws and weaknesses for there to be stakes.

Naw. Darkseid is beatable. The point of darkseid was he embodied the historical persona of rulers throughout history. Thus he is a god with human ideals. Darkseid's quest is fueled for something very human which makes him vulnerable. The reason Thanos doesn't work ironically enough is the same reason people don't like the DC series "Final Crisis." When someone is creating a villain that seeks an ultimate power. The drama comes in the struggle for it. Thanes doesn't work in infinity war (I use as a definitive example because it is the dost known) because he starts with the ultimate power. Where are the stakes for our heroes? How can the villain lose? What character change can our heroes go through in that plays into the conflict?

Darkseid seek ultimate power as well and beatable he is more powerful than Thanos in terms of raw power all his loses are based on broken logic.
