Description
as promised a new piece lol i'm suppose to meet my friends in half an hour so this was done in a bit of a rush...and ugh the hair as always is not my forte lol. but i desparately wanted to finish this so i could start a new piece. so i might go back after a bit and fix it up...haha if you've deviwatched me before you know that rarely happens LOLits kinda recognizable. i just like the facial features. feel free to critize the hair and give me tips to improve it LOL. most of it was in shadow and i know i do have to make the transition from the top light area to the dark shadow softer lol..but that can come later lol. not my best piece but enjoy ^^

Oh wow...that's so beautiful! The features are perfect, the hair is amazingly detailed, and I love the kind of...far away look in her eyes!! This is such a brilliant work, and you've captured her so expertly! I especially admire your shading; it's so wonderful! i look forward to seeing more of your work

It's beautiful The features are absolutely perfect, immediately recognizable
Her eyes are beautiful! I think the hair can be fairly easily improved just by using a tortillon over the whole thing. It looks like there are holes in the hair because those lighter spots on top don't really have any color to them. So just drag some of the graphite from the darker portions into the highlights, and then go over them again with a kneaded eraser
Blending the hair always makes it look a bit better cause it forces the graphite into the tooth of the paper so you don't get that rough look that comes from having tiny bits of white showing through
And always try to make your strokes follow the hair. In the main part of the hair it looks like you did a bunch of straight strokes to fill in the color. Just remember that for future portraits
But it's absolutely gorgeous the way it is!

first off thanks for such an amazing and thought out comment! ^^ hehe you always give great hair tips i will definately try those techniques to refine the hair a bit. i really should also learn to use nice drawing quality paper lol as most of my portraits are done in a 11x14in sketch book any suggestions on what kind of paper to look for? and thanks again!

I just use plain old Strathmore drawing paper with the yellow cover, 11 by 14. The strathmore is pretty inexpensive, so that's cool... lol. But I mean, a pad of paper will last you a while, so you could go more expensive if you like *shrug* Your choice Any paper made for drawing should work. It's rougher than bristol (which is super smooth) but smoother and better quality than sketch paper

Oooh this is absolutely beautiful. She has a very distinctive nose, doesn't she? You've captured it really well, and the shading around the cheekbone is just beautiful. Again, lovely work with the hair.

hehe thanks so much. well i'm trying to work my way up with observational sketching too. mostly by pictures in magazine or on the net lol..as i'm not good/ quick enough for a real subject. but hmmm helpful tips...i find it that you can easily be lost in your work while your drawing so you cant see any mistakes easily. i always stop and take breaks so when i came back and can adjust the things that need to be fixed ^^. i think thats the best tip. and just basically dive on in..lol you get better with each piece
