Description Doing this meme made me laugh so much since I shocked myself seeing how much I have improved in the time.

2006 picture took me months to complete (and I mean days upon days worth of work!!!)
2011 picture took me a fraction of the time (completed over a couple of weeks while I was working on several other pictures at the same time!).

Also the thing which makes me chuckle is that when I did the 2006 picture I was so over the moon with it. So proud of it and now looking at it well it looks comically compared to the quality of the 2011 picture. I think the most noticeable change was the changing of Raghnall from being a strong seme figure to more of a uke figure!

haha indeed, he looks very uke-ish now XDI think you improved your drawing hair skill a lot <3 And I totally understand your feeling, I keep laughing when I look at my old stuff. But it's nice to see an improvement. Keep it up!

I have to say the improvement in the hair department is thanks to Kaim. She explained the finer issues to me, and something just clicked as towards how to draw hair. For me, hair is now one of the easier things to draw, compared to it being once being the hardest thing. Thanks for your comments.

@ Hiota
Are you insane? Are you looking at the same pic?? No improvement?
The hair is so much better, the skin toning is more realistic and the character has so much more expression!

@ unknown3rd
The difference is very impressive, especially taking into consideration the length of time spent on each, 2011 - less time and better end result.
Well done

Thank you for your comments. It is great to know that I have improved in so many different areas. It might be slow improvement but at least it is improvement!! Time taken for a picture is my biggest improvement. Reward picture I am working on is nearly complete (which is a miracle considering I have been in bed ill recently). Colouring taking just a few evenings...as opposed to colouring in 2006 (taking several days / weeks) haha.

Thank you for your comments. It really made me sit back, look at all my artwork and go, "yes my manga styled artwork has not improved as much as say my pencil life drawing artwork has over the same time period".

It really made me think why this might be the case and I came to this conclusion. Unlike my other artwork styles, drawing the actual manga characters only occupies a small portion of my time, due to the rest of the time being spent on story development, character development, panel layouts, composition, script, toning, creating screentone backgrounds etc (the list goes on). Hence I can see why my improvement isn't as much as it could have been if I had only just focused on one area (i.e. drawing characters).

But from now on I am going to try and focus on trying to spend more time on drawing my characters, while juggling all the other parts of my artwork which I work on.

Artistically I like the new one more.

But I really can't stand stereotypically uke people :/

I totally agree with you...I too don't like stereotypical ukes. Hence why I am still playing around with his character development to get him into a more complicated character compared to a stereotypical one. Thank you for your comments.

Well keep experimenting ^^. If you do, you will end up with a character you are completely satisfied with.

Thank you for your comments. Yeah I do need to keep experimenting with his character and I am sure one day I will come up with something where he has all the qualities and flaws which make him seem human.
