Fun fact: the symbol Power is representing was known as "standby"; it represented either a sleep mode or low power state, but not cutting power completely from a device (for cutting power completely, separate circle and line symbols represent on and off, binary symbols). Later, a crescent moon was added by IEEE to represent sleep mode, denoting the circle with a line through as "power"; however, it still doesn't fully cut power to the device, especially in large computer systems.
