Description
been a while. old pose, new clothingi've been completely busy with work and summer visiting
so this skirt was made by me in 5 minutes. that was the point; the quickest way to make a dynamic skirt in hexagon.
i need to post a how-to; it's really very simple. 3 ovals, a tricky smoothed polyline, a surface, and two easy material zones.
the next trick i figured out was using multiple dynamic groups. the one for the waistband has friction values of 1 which means it won't slide on the skin; stays in place at the waist. moreover, it has really high stretch values to prevent stretching. i make it a little narrower than the waist so when it drapes, it pops to the outside of the body in a form fitting way. the rest of the skirt is a light material that's really slick (low friction values) so it poses easily.
a triangle based mesh seems to be horrible for dynamic clothing; comes out all jagged. i think it has to do with the fact that triangles are always planes. quads can form saddles and such which makes for a smoother shape when it deforms.
i found "changing room confessions" on youtube which has some cute dresses i want to try to model. the girly tunic dresses are easy enough. i want to try some crinoline mini dresses i've seen in various runway shows. i haven't figured out what settings to use to mimic the fabric.
oh well, back to work (the work that pays, not the graphics work i do for fun)
i won't have much time for cgi for the rest of the month.

It drapes very well! You'll have to get this tutorial sorted so I can learn your secrets!

the biggest secret can be summed up in one word: quads
i should write it up after i finish the big presentation i have to do for work. that's taking all my time.

I'd say the test passed! Nice work.
I'd love to hear more about that 5-minute, 3-oval, tricky-smoothed-polyline trick. I'm just starting to get into making my own dynamic clothing myself, and while I don't have Hexagon, I'd be very interested in hearing more about how you did it. Time permitting, of course, given that nasty "work" think you talked about.

i think i'll post a quick "how-to" and a hex file with it. i'd think for copyright reasons, i couldn't include the "dummy" i use since it's really just aiko's mesh tweaked every so slightly.

Thank you! Btw, the texture on her sweater is divine (almost literally: is that a phoenix?).
Aiko? We have Aiko: she's free!

i think it's just a bird. i rarely buy just texture packs since i'm more into the models themselves and in general i prefer procedural textures. but i saw this one: Jewels of Architecture SE: Orientalia Vol 1 at DAZ and had to get it. a lot of really good oriental type stuff in it.
true. you can always just export the aiko mesh and import it into whatever modeling app you use.

The skirt is fine, but what is up with those brows?

the whole character is off, i think. i want a "do over" using v4.
