Description
another v4 testthis time more messing around with dynamic clothing. here i'm trying to get the dress to interact with the hand. tricky since there's not enough "hand" to really affect the dress. i had to play tricks with constraints which affects the way the cloth bends. it seems a bit stiff.
also, the material doesn't show on the inside of a mesh. in this case it looks like a white lining but it's really just no shader at all.
there are some probe lights making the lighting on the glass windows and the candle bulbs. there are also some point lights to make the shadows. the nice thing about probelights is it doesn't add to the render time. probe lights are a great trick!
one last thing. i finally tried using firefly's depth of field. it blows compared to vue. still, the firefly in poser 7 is much better than previous versions. i also gave it its own thread which seems to stabilize and speed up the whole thing.
i'm really looking forward to poser pro which will add network rendering. i can turn all my maya and vue render nodes into poser render nodes as well.
on a side note: i had to stop using hexagon on my mac. it's way too unstable. and that's too bad since the mac makes for a better development platform (pound for pound) than windows. and hexagon is a great little modeler, once you wrap your head around the interface. i actually didn't take to it until i started to play with maya. go figure
as always, thanks for looking
ps: credits - victoria 4, my morphs, texture from the very sweet saylor by StephanieBT, dress by me, and kyoko hair by Kozaburo (make of some of the best rendering hair you'll ever find for poser - and it's free!)

I must say I prefer the clothed version. She looks creepy nekkid.

was a test to show how the musculature is affected by pose. very cool.
(i think she looks way too skinny)

Nicely done! I've used Koz's hair myself. Kind of hard to get it to fit V4, but the work pays off in the end.

thanks
i use the prop versions for that reason. the figure versions have to be adjusted in the setup room and i've found poser to be *very* unstable moving into and out of that room.

Welcome I use DAZ myself. So far I have only used All Back and Short Hair Evolution

Nice work with the dress I haven't got time in my life to wait for firefly to render with depth of field, I get glowworm to make me depth maps instead. But that wouldn't work for this image, though, with the reflective floor...

thanks
depth of field doesn't add as much to the render time i thought it would. but firefly does a very pixelated blur. and that *single* ray trace it brutal, though
i think between camera settings and render settings, i could do better
but i'm totally looking forward to poser pro to improve things. network render and being able to output right into cs3 will be helpful.
glowworm? vas?

glowworm is a python script for batch and multipass rendering you can get from Daz [link]
You can make depth masks using firefly's atmosphere, but glowworm makes that (among other things) really easy.

coolness. now it's on my wishlist. first i'm going to see how much of this they build into poser pro. and then see if it will work with poser pro's much needed network rendering. it's a shame the network rendering clients seem to be only windows and mac. those os's are just plain stupid to use in a render farm. too much unneeded overhead just for the os.

I'm going to hold off on poser pro until I live somewhere where I could fit a few render nodes, lol

the little mac mini can make an acceptable node. i have one plugged into my tv (no antenna or cable); since we don't watch much tv i generally use it as one of my render nodes. a couple of older laptops add a few more nodes. every little bit helps. i did have to buy a GB ethernet switch but luckily they're so cheap these days. the textures moving between nodes takes a while without high speed ethernet.
