Deviation Discussion: Cold dawn

Q: What inspired this deviation?
- I like blue and its combinations, also melancholic landscapes, sunrises, sunsets and the drama of leafless trees.

Q: If you like describe any special techniques you used.
- I add layer after layer, respecting the texture of the paper and only press at the end of the job.

Q: What is the best part of this deviation?
- The foreground tree and the sunset.

Q: Is there something you think can improved in this deviation?
- Although I am quite satisfied with this work, everything can be improved.

Q: Did you learn anything about your style while creating this deviation?
- I have taken a turn in my style in terms of color, now I like gray tones.

I absolutely love this picture! When I first saw it my reaction was literally " , that's colored pencil?!" The light effect from the setting sun is absolutely spot on! I have trouble getting that kind of lighting effect with paint! Everything about this is so wonderful, from the details in the trees, like the further distant limbs in light blue clashing against the foreground elements and limbs in dark color, to the difference in contrast in the grasses in the very foreground. The snow on the trees is an especially amazing touch, as is the soft transition from pink to blue in the sky!
I think the tip about layering is probably the most helpful tip. I had no idea you could layer colored pencil in this way, but now that I see it applied to the picture it makes perfect sense! I would definitely say you're well on your way to mastering this medium!

This is truly a wonderful piece!
