Description I decided to make a small panel on tail care, here it is:

PANEL 1: After rolling around the back seat of my car for two weeks my fox tail looked like an absolute mess. Crumpled, rubbed, smashed, matted and knotted.
-------------------------------------------------

PANEL2: But was I worried? nope. It may look devastating and completely ruined, but here are the tools i use to keep my tails looking their best.

- " O' pro " organic protein leave in conditioner/ detangeler. Features: olive oil, tea tree oil, and vitamin-e

- Four Paws slicker/ cat brush
-------------------------------------------------------

PANEL 3: with 5 sprays from the condiotoner and a few stroked of my brush you can start to see a big diffrence.
---------------------------------------------------------

PANEL 4: All done. It took me literally 1 minute to detangle it, in this picture it is still a little moist.

EDIT: This tutorial is for "yarn tails" which are tails make out of acyclic fiber.

I haven't tried any other product yet ( as my bottle still has some left), but in theory it should word with any spray detangler or possibly even some watered down hair conditioner.

Too much heat can permanently warp the fine acrylic fibers.

You CAN straighten the fibers with a hair straightener on medium or low stetting if it's a bit kinked, but if it's matted like the one in the tutorial you need to untangle it before applying heat or you'll make it soooo much worse.

I have a jacket that has fluffy fur stuff and it was put in the dryer. To say the least it looks awful. It has this very thin, stretchy stuff mixed in with the hair that looks like it was melted when it was dried. Anyway should I still try this on it?

Draephon In reply to Zimika [2013-08-09 06:08:50 +0000 UTC]

if the fur was faux and it was put in a dryer, it may have melted and gone curly. It may not be just matted and in need of a brush. I've had several stuffies die this way thanks to idiotic roommates. Let's hope it's just matted.

Zimika In reply to Draephon [2013-08-09 07:59:42 +0000 UTC]

I am afraid of that. I actually just found it the other day, but I didn't look at it until just now. I tried brushing a small area as I don't have any leave in conditioner and it looks like the stretchy fibers are just tangled. A lot came out in the brush, but just as much stayed and looks poofy again. So there might still be hope!!!!! That is not a cool move on the roommates end. Why must people wash and dry things improperly!?! T____T I was sabotaged by my own mother with this one.

I was just barely able to find the jacket so no not yet. I will make sure to post once I do.

Draephon In reply to Zimika [2014-02-19 06:46:19 +0000 UTC]

ok cool. If they are tangled, try a detangling spray as well, rather than straight brushing.

user-name-not-found In reply to Zimika [2012-08-31 01:48:01 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I would give it a shot. Depending on how melted, it might rip right through the problem spot to make fur again. Or if it beyond fiber seperation it will just help the remaining fur look its best. You might also want to briskly apply heat with a hair dryer when its moist to help heat set the minks out of it. Let me know how it goes.

I don't have a yarn tail to test this out, but I know silicone spray (liquid wrench) works wonders on wigs. Give it a try! c:

user-name-not-found In reply to x3TheBrokenArtistx3 [2012-08-14 00:52:40 +0000 UTC]

Oh no, I should have specified. It's a tail made out of acrylic yarn. Real fur wouldn't be all matted like that unless you seriously mos-treated it.
But I'm sure ok would work for real fur tails too.

RiversOblivion In reply to user-name-not-found [2012-08-14 04:21:52 +0000 UTC]

Real fur doesn't get too messed up like that, and I doubt you would want to use something like that on a real tail... I'm not sure, however. I would ask Lupa or Naturepunk. You might want to edit your Artist's Comments to say that this is yarn, just because I thought it was real at first two, and was confused as to how it got curly.

I use leave-in conditioner and slicker brushes on my real tails. You just have to be a lot gentler with the brush.

Wow, I didn't realize my tail was so convincing. I'm kind of flattered. I changed the description to make the distinction.

You should be! It's great for those people who don't like wearing real ones (or who want a hardier tail).

Yeah I must say, I have no problem frolicking in the woods or dirt or having people touch the yarn ones... but I'm very picky where I wear my real ones and who handles them. They are like my precious babies, so fragile.

Ive only worn my coyote out and hand full of times and I'm already seeing the wear on the leather and fur, this specific yarn one pictured here has been on my purse for months and it still looks brand new after some brushing.

Oh I hear you there. xD

And really? I've always been curious about yarn tails...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

user-name-not-found In reply to RiversOblivion [2012-08-15 03:39:35 +0000 UTC]

Oh yeah! SUPER durable. The colors never fade, cleaning and care is easy, and you can get the wet with out that "animal smell" you would get from real hides. I find most good tails run just as much in price as a real tail, but you can make custom markings you just can't get by putting dye into fur. Plus, if you make it your self it's cheap, just be prepared to put a LOT of labor and time into its creation. It's not easy turning string into fur.

If you have any questions hit me up.

Well that's good to hear! I saw a tout somewhere, once, on how to make yarn tails, but I haven't seen one in a while. I figured it would take a while, just looking at the number of brushes you have to use.

Ah ok I didn't think it was a real tail.. If it was, I was wondering what you possibly did to make it such a hot mess other than it being in a car xD But yarn, I can understand
