Description
This is mostly the fault of my better half *AleksanderZee for playing SWTOR (Star Wars: The Old Republic) in front of me and rekindling my love affair to the whole Old Republic franchise...This is Anala Karuka, my Old Republic fan OC and a member of [link] ~AriadneArca 's Outsetter crew. I've drawn her a bit younger here than I usually do (about 21 rather than 35), so she's still a padawan here, off on a mission with Master Vrook.
I mostly just wanted an excuse to draw a planet outside of the ship's view port.
In addition to belonging to the Jedi Order, Anala likes to follow the teachings of the Chalactan Adepts (a fledgling religion from her homeworld) especially an unusual side branch who use bangles to represent things one needs to reflect onβ¦usually, a friend or member of the family, but they can also represent goals or dreams. A person of this faith who does not wear a single bangle, and has not achieved the Greater Mark of Illumination, is considered to be as one dead (for they have no hopes, no dreams, nothing to live for). However, the point is to eventually achieve the Greater Mark of Illumination and shed the bangles, representing the shedding of worldly constraints and the achievement of enlightenment.
As these teachings mostly mesh with the belief system of the Jedi Order and the rather unruly padawan has calmed down significantly since adopting them, her master Vrook (unwillingly) tolerates her obsession.

Taking off, putting on...? Or just reflecting on it and what it represents?
(Ahh, Anala, I've missed you. Love the pose and the general scene. She does look a lot younger here, a lot less... careworn? Or maybe just more fresh-faced. XD)

Putting on, I think...you can't take one of them off without a significant amount of effort. A new dream, perhaps?

Anala seems like a really cool character, I especially love the incorporation of the bangles. This piece also looks really good, I love the soft glows on the gold and the screens. That something about the background just really screams KotOR to me, you've done a great job capturing it<3

I remember the Chalactans! Depa's fate in particular always interested me- what occurred to her and the other prisoners of the Jedi, I mean. After Order 66.

Hmmm, good question! According to Wookiepedia, Depa was supposedly lying comatose in the Halls of Healing by the time Anakin cleared out the temple, so one would assume that she was killed along with the others...one can hardly think that Anakin would have left a medical patient alive if he was willing to destroy younglings. But given her past dalliance with the Dark Side and the possibility that Anakin was only destroying potential threats, not hopeless cases, the Emperor may have found her useful if she survived the inital purge and her crazed mind was somehow brought back to life.
There may indeed be a story there...
