Description
take part in putting an end to the annual taiji, japan dolphin slaughterevery year dolphins are led in a prolongued chase to a hidden cove in taiji, japan. once the schools of dolphins enter the cove they are trapped and killed by the fisherman with knives and spears. the dolphins are left to watch their entire families die as their screams fill the air and the water around them turns red. the meat gathered contains toxic levels of mercury and is sold falsely as whale meat to the locals.
over 20,000 dolphins and porpoises are slaughtered each year.

I would like to let you know that I have thought about this most meaningful illustration quite often, especially during the dolphin drive hunts in Taiji, Japan. I so dearly love the Bottle-nose dolphin in the illustration and the way you drew it. This season so far has been really bad, especially this month. A number of Bottle-nose dolphins have been slaughtered. I always experience a deep sense of comfort every time I think about your illustration!

Aw, thank you so much. That is honestly one of the most touching things anyone has ever said about my art. That piece really means a lot to me and was a great outlet for all of the anger and sadness I was feeling about the events in question. I have also heard that things have been going poorly.. It really is heart breaking to think about. I'm so glad that my art can be some sense of comfort to you though, that really is so kind of you to say

What is it with humans?
Why do we assume that the whole world is ours to do with as we please?
Dolphins are wonderful creatures, social, fun-loving, intelligent and mostly harmless.
How can anyone justify their slaughter?

I know, the idea that people could do this to any creature at all - let alone such a family oriented, intelligent one really is quite sickenning.

I really appreciate your taking the time to spread the word about Japan's dolphin drive hunts.
Your illustration is very well done and is quite touching.
I submitted this to one of my groups, SaveWildCetaceans. I would very much like to invite you to join my group so that we can all fight together against various human threats, including dolphin drive hunts, that truly endanger the lives of wild cetaceans and their oceanic habitats. You will be able to find all kinds of info when you look through my group. I will definitely look forward to hearing from you!

Thanks for sharing that with me! Yes, The Cove is not only devastatingly sad but also very inspirational. I know it has inspired me and from what you have wrote it seems to have inspired you to take action as well. Hopefully lots more people will be affected the same way and this will come to an end sooner rather than later. Every person counts!
