Description
I've been dinking around with making a raven character to run around as, and after several failed design attempts, an idea hit me. I decided to cross the Common Raven with a Raggiana Bird of Paradise. The shape of the raven is the same, but with R. BoP markings and iridescence. This emotionless version is really rough. Besides refinement, it lacks throat hackles and some sparkley shimmery parts I usually add to feathertips. Both Corvids and Birds of Paradise mean a lot to me. Ravens remind me a lot of myself. They like dead stuff and shiny things, they fluff out a lot, they fling themselves in and out of potential danger, they are really shy, and are a bunch wisecrackers. I do wish I could fly! Birds of Paradise represent an element of surrealism and of child hood dreams. When I first learned of them, there was hardly any information. There still isn't a lot of information about them! Photos of certain species like the Greater, Lesser, and Raggiana BoPs, are more common, but some....I can't find any photos! Not to mention information on them. Imagine being a kid and hungering to know more about something and being blocked from every angle. And this was before the internet!
Another element of surrealism to BoPs is that they were originally believed to descend from the heavens, or Paradise, and for that reason the didn't have legs. Many skins from the 1800s and before had their legs cut off to perpetuate this myth,
Anyway, that's a short explanation of what these birds mean to me. Don't get me started on hummingbirds. ;3
Name suggestions are welcome. :3
Edit: I added some hackle feathers and glowies as well as some other tinkerings.

Isn't that amazing how birds-of-paradise are the crow's cousins?
I really love your idea and I believe that is how we humans are suppose to be like, we can evolve if we want to, just like how the black birds evolved into the stunning flower like birds~

It's not that clear but I have a photo of a stuffed Raggiana Bird of Paradise taken at the Walter Rothschild Zoological Museum in England (it's the big bird in the middle!)

I like the mix of Raven and Raggiana Bird of Paradise in this pic.

Oh tasty! I wish I could see that in person. Maybe I will oe day. I love how it shows the various species in the genus Paradisaea. Even if it's blurry, do you have a large version of the photo?

Name suggestion? ....
Boppie. Ravehbop. Boprah.
I don't think I'll ever be able to take BoPs seriously again, now that I know how their name is abbreviated. BOP!

Maybe your local zoo has some, or perhaps your local natural history museum has skins. If not, you can buy skins from ebay!

The latin name of the Greater BoP, Paradisaea apoda, comes from that myth, as apoda stands for legless
Actually it's fun how much the birds of paradise are similar to the ravens and such, well they are included in that family so it's quite normal.

I was confused but pleased to see the number of birds thrown into the huge Suborder of Corvida. I had it all written down from a previous museum trip, but I can't find the papers now.
What a delicious link! Sadly it still only shows paintings of many birds I long to see more detailed photos of.

Hahah, when I first saw this I didn't read the description and I was all "whuh" because the structure and colouration didn't match up... but upon reading the description I think this is a really excellent idea and it looks wonderful! Far more interesting than your average common raven (and mind you, corvids are my favourite birds).
I WANT THROAT POOFS >:{
A Wilson's bird of paradise/white throated magpie-jay would look good too... open to such a cool tail design!!

Nice design
the best pogamme i've ever seen about birds of paradise was bay David Attenborough, called 'Attenborough in Paradise' and it was the first time man of the birds of paradise species had been filmed ever. It was shown once on the BBC years ago, but its been released on dvd since. one of the best dvds i own
