I feel like there must be some analogy that doesn't sound so insulting on the surface. I don't know what it is, but I know it's out there.
Would sheep be better or worse? I'm not sure.
Also, there were totally periods of history when cows were slaves. Nowadays cows do have some rights, but that's a fairly recent development.

That's sort of the view the Changelings have towards my human and pony characters in my fan fics were they are sort of like cows. The problems between the Changelings is each has there own idea on how much is to much to steal. Such as some take the love directed at them while others bite and try to suck it out regardless to what it does to the host.

It different from Vampires. Chrysalis use Cow for example. because, even you take milk from cow. It still not die.
Just like Changeling take love from ponies. They still not die or turn to be another Changeling. No harm done.

I pressume that is the case of the Changelings of your comic, because Shining Armor didn´t look very well when Chrysalis was feeding on him. And in the official comic (is semi-canon until the animated series says other thing), there is evidence that the Changelings actually hurt the ones from whom they feed.
In the case of the vampires, I take the case of universes like Vampire: The Masquerade and The Requiem, and True Blood. They don´t have any interest in killing the source of their food and "protect" humans from these vampires who kill or hurt humans

I think with Chrysalis in the TV Show she did mention that she was deliberately making Shining Amor weak so that he couldn't use his protection spell on her and her Changelings. Also Queen Chrysalis in the show was shown to be very greedy and selfish and wanting to take over the place. So she would natural be aggressive feeder trying to empty the ponies like a milk bottle. Such as in the Comic Queen Chrysalis didn't think twice about drinking down those cat things love like a juicy juice box in that she was highly aggressive.
As for Changelings and other Changeling Queens I think the bulk of them might be so secretive and careful with their feeding habits that most of the time a pony wouldn't notice them. Such as a pony could have one of their best friends be a Changeling but the Changeling is careful about feeding to avoid major harm to the pony. This could be for two reason the first reason is if the pony gets harmed or has noticeable damage to them this will attract attention to the Changeling feeding. Such as if a pony starts acting like a zombie or shows up dead the other ponies will know something is wrong. The Second reason why a Changeling might not try to do permanent harm to a is pony is they might like them and have learned to control their feeding urges to were they don't steal everything in one shot that harms the pony. Such as you could have Changelings who have been living in Ponyville for years without being noticed do to their careful feeding habits. But I really think the aggressiveness of Changelings depends on the Changeling Queen on how she prefers to run the hive.

Shinning Armor did't look very well because Chrysalis's Mind Control spell.
But yeah. If Changeling eat to much love from pony. They will weak or die of course. But if they feed not to much. Ponies will recover after feed and didn't notice that they was fed. by them
And about official comic....is it really official? Twilight Valvet really be Daring Do's author?
And about canon....I already warn all you. I warn every time I post.
