Description
Model: Emily Axelson [link]Photographer: Me
Emily had this brilliant idea one night after drinking a few glasses of wine, that we should do a photoshoot. She told me that she had this idea in her head for years, I think she said it may have been a dream. But her idea was that, when someone is raped, violated, abused, they're attacker leaves an imprint on them. Something that stays with them forever, and she wanted to have a photoshoot with handprints all over her face and body to show how this can affect those victims. How visible the shame, grief, and anger is to those victims.

I have found that, at times, words are inadequate to describe how something makes me feel. This is one of those times. All I want to do is give her a hug and make her feel better. To try and right a grave wrongness.
On another note, I do have a bit of constructive criticism: this is a fairly colorful image for conveying such a concept. Usually, darker tones or less color work better. That being said, I do think this is a wonderful shot, and very well executed.

Hello,
I wonder if you can help me?
Iām an art student, just starting my Final Major Project for my course. I am going to produce a body of work that confronts child abuse. I need to conduct a certain amount of research before I start the actual art work and I need to show that I have looked at the work of other artists whose work is based on a similar theme.
I have started a group with the aim of helping me with this research [link] please feel free to join, or send any comments and thoughts you have.
I found your piece very emotional and powerful. With your permission, I would like to include a picture of it in my working journal, I will of course give you full credit in the journal and say where the image came from.
Please could you send a note back saying if you would like me to use your image in this way?

This is a fantastic concept, very well executed. It even seems to me that the different colors could represent different people. There is a lot of pain and anger there and it is seen in her face and her hand griping her arm.

I am an abuse victim. I've had many verbal and bodily assaults as well as emotional assaults. These things are powerful hard to incorporate into your daily life and institute as a part of yourself.
You want to feel dirty because you feel so bad, but what I have to say all victims anywhere is: show the world your faults. It's worth it to bear your scars. Look those who harm in the face and growl. You can only move on once you have those imprints as a complete side to the whole of yourself.
This photo shows so much love and hurt and pain. There is so much passion here. It is a very powerful image. Thank you for this, I hope you move many people with your art.

Thank you very much, this comment moved me and I appreciate how you understand the meaning of my picture and it's intensity. It's quite a sad thing that you are a victim, but I am glad that you are making people aware that it happens. Thank you.
