Description
Another background image inspired by the design of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. The first BG got some good feedback from others, but one of the most consistent crits it got was the perspective. So I decided to try perspective a bit harder.
While I still attribute much of this image's style to an attempted replication of MLP's aesthetic, I decided to let my hand go a bit more free form in this and just do what it wanted. The trees, ground, and distant background elements are pretty close, the house and mailbox was done in my own accord, just to see what I'd learned and if I can apply any of it yet.
They have a lot more detail and intricate designs, an amount greater than what's usually portrayed in MLP. So it's what I learned most from doing this. Less is more. It doesn't take a large amount of detail to convey an object.
If you've been following my journal, this image also carries a story. For those who have guessed that the cast of the fan-fic I have in mind is Rainbow Dash and a decrepit angry old geezer pony named Buck, and the plot involves fixing the destruction of a botched trick on the outskirts of Ponyville, then the image has succeeded in telling a story.
If there's one character whose dialogue I know how to write, it's the cranky withered bantering of a youth-hating old coot. You can blame my high school education for that.
Anywho, same rules as before. Flash only. All vector.

Great job with this. Only a couple of things really spring out being a bit off... The lines on the roof are too straight. I'm sure the Ponyville architect must be a relative of Derpy! Also the sky seems a bit empty. I know there will be days when the weather team have cleared the sky, but especially in an outlying area a couple of clouds would fill the blankness

It's honestly so tough to do amazing backgrounds and architecture. At least for me. and this is a stunning example of it. Great work.

Very nice background, but unfortunately the story that instantly flashed through my mind was a bit...different from yours. The nanosecond I saw this, I thought of Jenny's abandoned childhood home from Forrest Gump. And then for some reason that first impression made me think this must be the reason Applejack's parents aren't around anymore. Now I'm sad.
I think I like your story better than my morbid interpretation. I Hope this comment doesn't ruin the picture for anyone, because it is nice.

I've also wondered what ever happened to Applejack's parents, and I'm certain there are fics aplenty explaining why they're missing. When you actually sit down and observe the world Faust has created, it always opens up many questions; questions the fan community is working strenuously to address.
My story actually addresses one such question, a very small one, but plays a major role in the plot.

Great stuff! I seriously thought it was a reference to this: [link] at first, hole in front of the house and all.

Is it 'Meet Buck'?
(Clicks link)
IT IS!!! Everybody go check that movie out!
I admit, when I came up with the character name 'Buck' I was very apprehensive to run with it because of that short film. I loved it so much, and didn't want to trounce on it by giving a character the same name. But I assure you guys, there is a very good reason why his name is Buck, and thank existing canon, there's no other name that would make sense when he is tied into the existing series.

I love the way this looks,.... except for the colors. A lot of the show has highly saturated colors, even if it's a "cold and dark" looking environment.
I'd say Apple Achres is pretty desaturated out of all the environments I've tried to pay attention to during the series, but it still has the appeal of bright apples throughout the orchard.
Great work though! I have yet to try my hand at making a BG for that show (let alone, figure out my pony-sona~) haha keep it up!

Ah, you made another one. Nice.
This one, actually, gives me even more that volumetric feeling, especially because of perspective you choose. Small but big objects on the foreground and big but small on the background. Even tho mailbox drags attention first, the house plays bigger role for the whole composition.
Also: "Buck". Ha.

Wow, I really love this! You definitely succeeded in capturing the show's style. I think my favorite part is the clean lines and the fun shapes inside them. The gradients are perfect to a t- I'm so headed off to see more of your gallery with this piece of art. It must've taken a lifetime!

Oooh, brace for disappointment my friend. This is a mere attempt at the MLP style, chosen because of how radically different it is from my usual style lol. So if you're a big fan of the flat bold-colored gentle gradients of MLP, you're not going to find a whole lot of it in my gallery.
Hence why I'm making more of it.

Mmmm, I like the look of this one more than the first I think. Though the other had a bit more of an odd charm to it. I literally spent a minute staring and trying to find a word for it.
There was no word. And short of inventing my own (Tempting...) I'll just have to use charm.
And I'm glad to see a follow-up that is different in a way to the other, albeit I'm not sure I'd be disappointed if it were just a duplicate of the previous with a different location, I mean, they're both great afterall, didn't want to put that idea across by mistake.
My mental image sees a withery old manpony providing a rather powerful headbutt on meeting. That's just the way animals should handle things.

reminds me a lot of the Maniac Mansion. The roof seems over-geometric for the style. Unless you spot perspective oddities, you may want to go further with perspective distortions such as using vanishing curves rather than vanishing lines...

Sky's a little empty but the rest of it looks magnificent. I like the general shape of the house but my favourite part has to be the mailbox.

OH WAY TO TOTALLY BLOW THE ENDING. Now my Granny Smith clop fic is ruined! RUINED!
Kidding. Obviously.
I'm keeping the cast count very low in this. Only three characters are planned so far, and one of them is only a supporting role simply for plot progression. I don't want the plot to become too terribly convoluted.
