So last week, I got into a request Livestream for the wondrous and most awesome *bunnimation where I was granted the opportunity to request a gift art for *curran 's My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic OC. So as a way of saying thanks, he went to another *bunnimation stream to create a pair shot of my two favorite characters from the show. After hearing that such was conspiring in the background, I pledged that if it were to be drawn, I would color it.

So here's the final product of last night's Livestream session. Thanks, by the way, to all the people who swung by to give some company and realtime feedback on this piece.

This one is also a heck of a lot brighter and has a more cartoony color palette than my usual stuff. With this one, I just wanted to have the base colors show through, and not be changed much by the highlights or the shadows. The shadows are also extremely light on this, as I wanted the environment to be very soft and kinda hazy like they were high up in the air, close to the clouds.

The background is supposed to look like it's from the Friendship is Magic television show, hence the very flat and simple design. However, as it pulls closer to the foreground, there's more detail gradually introduced so at least there's some transition of contrast. That way, it doesn't look like they're on a cardboard set, it all kinda blends into itself.

Final little bits. Fluttershy is hard to shade. She has a really light color, and I get way more contrast than I want when I use the purple/blue shadow color (since it's complimentary to her yellow coat). So I really spent a while nitpicking the shading on her, and ultimately just went with the "make it really simple and suck out the detail" approach (when in doubt!). I also redid Rainbow Dash's eyes...what....three times? Four times? Eh, just couldn't get them looking in the right direction; the pupils always seemed to be drifting and not equal in the irises. I still know they're a smidgen off, but it's about the best it's going to get.
