The Orion Union is one of the three major powers on the galactic stage, dominating most of the Milky Way galaxy and ruling from the city of Seoul, South Korea on Earth. Wherever there are human nations in the Milky Way, the blue and white flag of the Orion Union will fly alongside local flags. Thanks to the Union, planets have developed incredibly fast and everywhere you go, the quality of life will always remain high.

History

The history of the Union has its roots in the 2020 Dark Age, a single year in history in which chaos was at an all time high. The Covid Pandemic, rise of the Conspiracy Militias, and the destabilization of the global economy. The world was at its worst, and it seemed that it was only going to get worse after the Third World War, in which the entire world suffered a devastating conflict from 2023 to 2036. After the war, the U.N formed the International Global Rebuild Commission, dedicated to rebuilding the world.

It was during this period that HWB was created. Helpers Without Borders was a group of engineers, doctors, police, and security contractors that went around the world helping and rebuilding cities, towns, and villages across the worst hit parts of the world. Most of their work was in Eastern Europe and East Asia, which were heavily hit during the war and so received most of the help they could get. HWB made their headquarters in newly rebuilt Seoul, a small fraction of what was to come.

After the Conspiracy War, the people of the world realized humanity needed to band together if they were to survive. And so, the U.N alongside the HWB established the Global Alliance, a coalition of every single nation state on Earth dedicated to the advancement of technology and culture in order to make sure humanity didn’t die out. It worked well, with the G.A taking control of dams, oil fields, and various massive stretches of untamed wilderness in order to protect and safely take resources of these areas.

In 2040, after the ISS Vladius established First Contact with the Global Alliance, the world went into a frenzy. With the discovery of incredible new technology, the realization that magic actually existed, and that there was a powerful nation in another galaxy, the people of the world realized that the Global Alliance was too inefficient to run the whole show. Enter, the Universalists.

The Universalists were a fringe political organization from Eastern Europe, and believed that humanity, in order to survive, needed to spread out across the stars so that separate cultures could remain free and interact with other cultures. Although the original idea of this was similar to several far right sentiments originating from the Conspiracy War, it was modified to have a progressive and liberal tone to it, causing many to join the movement as theyear went on.

After Mars was terraformed and the FTL engine fully perfected, the Orion Union was formed as a coalition of alliances, nations, and organizations dedicated to spreading humanity across the stars so they wouldn’t be stuck in one particular place. There have been many success stories, such as the planet of Hodinisha for various Native American groups seeking a new home for themselves, but there have been some problems as well, such as the failed terraforming of the planet of New Celtia.

Modern Day

In the present, the Orion Union is a major power in its own right, having the combined forces of several alliances that stretch over a small but prosperous region of space. With ten systems under its control, it is certainly smaller then the Imperial Union, but is able to make up for this with its vast technological array of weapons and machines that allow it to make up for a small population.

Most of its population is in the Sol System, where the planets of Earth, Mars, and Venus serve as its capital, industry, and breadbasket respectfully.

Earth is a planet of reclaimed land and new lands across the sea. Global Warming, alongside WW3 brought about immense global flooding, causing many coastlines to disappear under the waves. However, thanks to technology bought from the Imperial Union, these coastlines have returned, alongside several new island chains, landmasses, and sunken regions across the world. Doggerland Island, Zealandia, Lemuria, Atlantis, and Mu are just some of the small island chains that have been brought to the Earth, and act as models for what a proper society should look like.

It is a massive city, stretching across the land and filled to the brim with parks, small arcologies, and one of the most efficient train networks ever created. It is a city of many cultures, and it is perfectly normal to see an Ethiopan restaurant next to an Angelic Bathhouse.

Mars is a desert planet with vast expansive coastlines. The island of Elysium, settled by Japanese refugees, is a paradise island known for its rich culture, fantastic cuisine, and beautiful landscape. Meanwhile, the states and nations of Mars mostly cling to the coasts, while the interior and mostly dead vast desert expenses are used for industry and manufacturing.

Venus was thought by many to be impossible when it came to colonization, but with mystic fueled terraforming, the acid rain became normal, and the vast islands became ripe for farming. Today, Venus is a planet most known for two things, great resorts, and gigafarms pumping out literal tons of foodstuff across the system.

The outer planets are mostly made up of mining communities, several of which have successfully terraformed Jupiter's moon and turned them into colorful places perfect for mining.

Orbital stations are everywhere, in each system that exists. Some have spherical designs, others look like rings or cube, but they all have the same purposes, to facilitate trade between Orion Unionnations and act as representatives of Seoul. These stations are technically members of the Union, and often have their own governments, monarchies, councils, and some are even anarchies, choosing to be run by an A.I intelligence.

The systems outside of Sol vary, but most have one or two terraformed worlds either run by Earth colonies or independent nations, Hodinishah being a good example. These systems have developed their own cultures that broke away from Earth, while others have been experiments in reviving ancient cultures, such as the countries of New Rome, The Dynasty of Quing, Nordic Kingdom, Aztec Republic, and Carthaginian Federation. The nations that have formed their own cultures based off of pre-existing cultures are just as equally diverse, such as the New American Republic, People’s Republic of Japan, Russian Gosudardom, and Mercosur.

Culture

The Orion Union prides itself on being a melting pot of human culture, a place where peoples and ethnic groups long since ignored on Earth could make a home for themselves among the stars. Whether the culture is ancient, dead, or artificial, there is a home waiting for them in the stars, right there for the taking. Hodinisha, Maximilian, and New Asia are just a few of the worlds that have been settled by different cultural groups, and have evolved since then to become unique when compared to their founders' original homes.

Outside of the national cultures, life in the Orion Union is similar to the Imperial Union. The people of the Union are independent, but rather than party all the time, the people of the Orion Union seek to better themselves and better the people around them. From an early age, Orion citizens are given a variety of options for a future career that interests them, whether it be as a doctor, teacher, engineer, the possibilities are limitless. This isn’t saying that this is all they have to offer, as the Orion Union is a free society, so if one wants to work in the arts, then they have every right to work in artistic jobs.

There is a strong sense of shame hanging over the older generations of the Orion Union, as they still remember the chaos and madness that their parents and grandparents did in the past. Much like Germany after WW2, there is a national embarrassment, whether it be the chaos of 2020, the Conspiracy War, and of course the events of the American Theater during WW3. Many older people will only talk about the past for books, interviews, and some events during the school year, otherwise, they will refuse to bring the subject up.

Religion had several ups and downs over the years, with a massive dip in popularity during 2020 and the various church scandals. However, after contact with the Imperial Union, there was a brief resurgence in faith, as many conservative religious communities saw the existence of a nation running on magic as a threat to humanity. However, there was an immense divide in the religious community after a group of Yemeria travelled to the Orion Arm in order to become benefactors of the Earth religions. Today, there is an immense divide between religious groups that refused the Yemeria and the groups that embraced them. This is incredibly apparent with the two catholic churches, the old church in Rome and the Yemeria backed Catholic Church in St.Louis.

Military

The Combined Forces of the Orion Union is a military group made up of volunteers from every single member nation, and acts as a unified task force dedicated to protecting the assets controlled by the Orion Union national council.

The military has several branches, including the Army, Navy, Airforce, Spaceforce, Marines, and the Supernatural Response Team. These groups are paid in full by taxpayer money coming from the various countries, which supply twenty percent of their tax funds to the Orion Union itself. With these funds, the Orion Union pays for hundreds of dollars worth of guns, ammo, and vehicles. Across the Orion Arm, stretches of land dedicated to the military operate as military bases, ready to defend the Orion Union at a moments notice.
