Description The kanabo (metallic staff) is a wood club that was used in feudal Japan as a weapon. It was constructed out of heavy oak wood, with metal studs or spikes on one end, one or both ends could have a metal covering. Later versions were made entirely out of metal, but shorter. The word "tetsubo" also refers to the same type of weapon. Kanabo could be a long and heavy two handed weapon or a short light one handed weapon.

The kanabo was also a mythical weapon, often used in tales by oni since they reputedly were extremely strong. Today there is a saying in Japanese: "Like giving a kanabo to an oni" -- which means to give an extra advantage to someone already holding all the cards, or in other words, overkill.

The most recognizable weapon of the Disciple of the Stone, a tetsubo is a simple tool with deadly applications. In its earliest form, the tetsubo was merely an iron bound club, easily made and adept at smashing through enemy armor. The Kha-han warrior monks trace the use of this weapon back to Davlavitch Khahan himself. It has been said that one purpose of the tetsubo was to smash enemies' armor, bones underneath and break their warhorses' legs. The art of using this cumbersome weapon, tetsubo-jutsu, consisted of a mastery of both balance and strength; it required great skill to recover from a miss with the heavy club, which leaves a warrior open to an attack of opportunity.
Some might call the tetsubo a crude weapon, but the Kha-han weapons smiths have inevitably led to the more complex tetsubo's of modern use. The tetsubo carried by the modern Disciple of the Stone are made from solid steal and covered in removable iron studs.
The tetsubo does not receive the polearm bonus for initiative and a character must have a strength score of at least 17 to wield a tetsubo with out penalty.
Special: In the hands of a trained Disciple of the Stone, the tetsubo ignores all armor bonuses, though any magical bonus still applies.
