Thank you.
It's been a while, but I recall using parts of NASA's Blue Marble city light imagery ( visibleearth.nasa.gov/view.phpโฆ ), cloning them around and deleting some to create cities and continents. Then, based on how the left corner looks, I either skipped the part where the whole thing is rendered onto a sphere or didn't do the best possible work aligning it. I'm sure there's a good way between this and painting everything by hand, but the NASA images are a really good reference, if nothing else.

Thanks. This is actually, if I remember correctly, based on NASA footage of light pollution they have on some page of theirs. After that, tedious clonetooling.
But I remember from making another of these some time ago, that networking, having them glow and putting in a random big blob of light every now and then go a long way.

thanks for the tip, i did took some notes on it, but ended up making a scatter brush in photoshop, i think it still needs more detail, but it was a huge help seeing what you told me. so thanks again!!

I'm glad my obscure ramblings could help.

Very nice, the shadows cast by the clouds are amazing. I would add a bit more of a flare to the sun, it just doesn't seem like its bright enough. But overall its amazing.

Thank you. Meant it to be quite a frigid world, but at the focal lenght this would appear to be shot at, yeah, the sun does seem a tad small, especially considering the amount of illumination on the surface.

Thankyou. The expert-part is a definite overstatement, but ideas are always welcome.

Nice scene, but don't tell me the small sun is the caused of the brightness , if it's then I think it should be more detailed

Hmmm, in this spacescape is there a sun that bigger that one or closer ?
You're welcome by the way!

Well, it's pretty much the size of Sol. Focal lenght tends to mess these things up, but it's the light source. The nebula has it's own.
