Salt was born into the court of Blue Diamond, a new kind of gem created to serve as a protector to the young Sapphire. She is a talented fighter and not afraid to pursue an enemy more powerful than herself. This gem posses electrical powers that manifest through her weapon and -occasionally- in sparks from her hair. When at court Salt is prone to standoffish behavior, making few friends. Her relationship with her Sapphire is very close and the two have been spotted laughing together. Salt is a good teacher and has become an instructor to other guards.

Salt is a very special Gem because she is unique. The first of her kind, she possesses far more power than a common Salt might and bears the marks of rushed birth in the patterns on her skin. The court is unsure of her rank and discussions about the 'impurities' that must have caused them have kept her from the top of Gem society. Blue Diamond wholeheartedly ignores Salt and has assigned her Sapphire a dangerous mission: go with a team of Yellow Diamond's best warriors and explore a new colony world.
