Description I wanted to perform this for my school,
But they thought women's issues were cool.

Just as them, my assumed problems were based off my gender, my race, and my sexuality.

I don't know racism, I'm white,
I got to face the delight of privilege that took away everyones rights.

I never faced sexism. At least, not like the females who represent womanism.

All that mattered to them was that I was gay. I could validate their inclination to talk of my oppression as if it was their own depression.

I got laughed at. Sure I had problems, but mine weren't the same as theirs. The poor little white boy still didn't get it.

But yet, there was a time where I did get it. For two years I was convinced I understood it.

But yet, instead of knowing that men are three times more likely to end their own lives, I was taught that it was rude to rape a woman with your eyes.

I learned that a woman's boobs should be free, but not of the men who served their sentences times three.

I heard about the imaginary wage gap, but not the fact that a baby was more likely to stay with his mother because of the gap between her legs and not his.

I'm not saying your problems don't matter but,

I'm a man and I was molested.
I'm white and was beaten for my pigment.
I'm gay and I have ignored intelligence because they were straight.

But hey, women's issues are cool.

Gender roles are dumb, and they must be abolished.

It always upsets me how so many issues are smothered by racism and sexism. Perhaps I should care more about them as I am a mixed race girl but no form of discrimination as an issue should be given greater importance than other.

Sorry to hijack a personal poem with a long ramble here, but I know the type of women's rights activists you're talking about and you're absolutely right. The way men are affected by gender roles is an issue completely left out of feminist discussion because of the completely tradition-sexist view that men cannot be victims. I think people need to point out all the issues you pointed out more often!!

But you are a feminist! Your views are perfectly in tandem with women's rights. "Babies should not stay with their father (because women should be mothers), only men can commit sex offences (because women are weak and cannot take advantage of anyone), men shouldn't talk about their emotions (because that would be emasculating, emotions are for girls)." Only one thing: here's a good list of evidence for the wage gap. But that's also something that effects men! A man who makes less than a female spouse gets placed under social pressure to perform and men are discouraged from being house spouses when it might be the best option just because they're men.

Please don't become discouraged from speaking up about gender roles!! Men's rights and women's rights are the same goal, not opposing sides. As long as you acknowledge women's struggles as present, you should be listened to in turn about men's. Feminism and egalitarianism and what have you are arbitrary,  subjective and meaningless labels for the same things.

Oh also to add, I didnt really mean to criticize the definition or belief of feminism but simply the people who practice it

Yes for sure!! I personally believe men and women have separate problems in this society and I definitely see both sides of the spectrum. I actually really appreciate your input ^~^ I just personally label myself as an egalitarian, and even though i didnt mention it in the poem, I do believe that there is a lack of speaking on rape in the feminist community for women as well as body image and such that gets blocked out by minimal to non existant problems. I also want to add that even though I dont identifybwith feminism, I also recognize that not all feminists fall under the toxic portion I criticised. Thanks for your response ^~^
