Description
Warning: BIG fileSo it took ages to finish this map but I think it was kinda worth it. I did not work on the oceans and other waters as I am not 100% sure how they work and did not want to destroy anything. I tried to make it looks at least semi-realistic but there, of course, is some fantasy stuff going on as I am not a professional world maker or anything like this :")
Working and learning about how plates works, where should be what and generally drawing it was fun as hell and I regret nothing. I also have few other versions of this map, to be exact: political map, climate map and "height" map, but they won't be posted on dA as I think one version is good enough
This map is NOT free to use. It is my personal map for my project!
I was using GPlates to make this map works in 3D and also used GProjector to make these wonderful globe views!

Why is there a ring of landmass around the North Pole and then an ocean on it? Why not fill the entire thing in or make it look more natural by changing the coastline there?

I have a bit of "lore" for this world that sorta requires this separated, frozen ocean. I wouldn't say it's something extra unnatural as seas connected only by a tiny bit of water are a thing, why not something completely cut off. Maybe I should just make the landmass a bit thinner at one side idk

Feel free to share your BEST explanation as of why I should not be able to create something for myself and why should I change it to your liking. I want it to be a bit realistic but I am no expert, I tried my best and the result is satisfying to me. However, if you have a degree of something, I'd be more than happy to use your wisdom to make it better c:

Oh it is about the large archipelago. The chain of islands could raise up creating a continent.
You can use Unity to create a globe a sun kinda of like my basic attempts at better creating geo-orbital biomes and fine detail on creating a planet for my medieval fantasy world: www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRMpC7β¦ . I had fun doing it although the map is basic and uncoloured; the project was still useful in making the biomes for further maps. As in the orbital tilt and tracing the sun's seasonal deviation of rays upon the surface of the planet I was able to better align and model the temperature based biomes of my fantasy world as scene here in theses more colourful maps:
Then based upon my ongoing study of history being utilized with the historical significance of thousands of years of geopolitical empires and borders I roughly followed a system of resource control, trade routes and logistical based boundaries to create the borders of the various realms of my fantasy continent for the various competing forces and factions:
Still the work is not perfect. Yet it does work quite well to give a logic based world generation of often over looked small yet crucial details of lives derived from our shared existence on earth and how we changed with technology (travel for example). To know fiction one must know history, to know history one must know fiction. To know truth one must know lies, to know lies one must know truth. Effectively respect paid to the eternal human conflict of the effort to balance chaos into order. The dragon consuming its own tail. More on this in my comment signature link with Jordan Peterson's fantastic delve into the significance of the stories in the bible and other spiritual works.
Also I then honed in on the Human empire and further gave more detail and scale based infrastructure (like how towns are spaced in real life on travel distance and places of travel interest):
Then I went and added more detail with towns and local governments:
Then I went and started making it it a game and so far I have this madness right now XD:

I am, not sure if you have an interest in deep world building but not many people do so I figured it was worth a shot giving this a shot in case there was an interest with something similar to these examples. Any way best of luck mate and happy world building.

This is pretty amazing wow. I've been thinking about creating a map recently for my headworld but have absolutely no idea where to start so this just blows my mind!!

Thank you so much!
Making a map of a whole world is really different from e.g. making a map of just a continent or an island. I find this video a really good explanation of how to start a realistic world map, so you should check it out: www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_Tn66β¦ <3
