Description This photo was taken on September 8th 2003. This is probably my proudest and was personally my most sought after shot. One night a couple of months before, I was driving by and just happened to look to see an incredible rolling fog on the golf course mixed with the extremely bright grounds light they use to change/move sprinklers. It looked awesome. I fired back to nab my camera, but came back too late. So this night after leaving a friend's house, I seen it was foggy and wasted no time getting there to check it out(along with my camera). I seen it was even better than before as the fog was higher in the air and making the very exact image you see in the picture. So to make the image like I see it, I used a tripod and took this long exposure to my absolute delight. This picture inspires me everyday.

Thank YOU. I always love hearing compliments on what I take. I never thought however to post photos into contests. I just wanted to be able to post them some place where others may enjoy them. Until I was introduced to DA, I was simply placing them on my Yahoo account but didn't like the fact that people couldn't see them at full size and that Yahoo was trying to make a buck off of people if they wanted to buy prints. I don't want anyone trying to make money off the photos I take, whether by stealing or by how Yahoo was doing. I'm not sure I ever want to either. So I chose this site and love to have those see the full size and quality and clarity of those photos. I've never taken a college course on photography or on cameras and feel as though it's going to hinder me if I choose to try to make this my true living. I'm always glad to hear I inspire anyone. I choose a digital camera due to many facts. Such as being able to see them after they were taken. Also not having to mess with a darkroom and all that it entails. Now a days photo places are really catering to digital formats, so even if someone doesn't have a computer, they can get their pictures developed easily and even to cd format to upload onto a pc. Also being able to(with the a big enough memory card/disc) being able to take more than just 36 pictures. I tend to snap alot of pictures now, to be able to get the one I and maybe others will like too. My Sony and Canon digital both have ways to plug into a tv to view them there(yellow video jack). I'd better stop here before my fingers fall off, but I really want to thank you, thank you, thank you.

Oh i hear you there! I was looking at a sign at my local Kmart and the cheapest way to process your pictures was to have them put on a disc. The prints were all at least three dollars higher and that was for singles! I was encouraged to post my writing on DA at first because a friend of mine loved the story i was writing. I didn't start getting back into the other genres until just recently. The lighthouse picture i sketched was the first picture i've drawn in about fifteen years and I was shocked that i could still do it. It's still a surprise to have anything i do faved. But there are some super people i've met here on DA (present company included) with some amazing art. So many so that i am shocked some of them haven't been discovered (again present company included).
I confess, I have been taking my mom's digital camera as well as my own 30 buck special. I'm sure she's been regretting living next door to me lately, lol. I may begin to save for a good digital after the summer but i have to save now for my yearly trip to Maine which is coming up.
Do you favor one cam over another, I am curious? I try to be a smart shopper nowadays.
Also your work deserves every compliment it gets. You've been gifted with an eye for beauty in the world.
And you're welcome, you're welcome, you're welcome

Oh yeah and for quality, don't go with anything under 3 megapixels.

I feel too good when I get compliments like that. Should I deserve such praise when I see so much work on here that is oh so good. Now.. as far as cameras go, if you're asking me, you might be asking the wrong guy when it comes to price. To me there is no price. I've now bought my first two digital cameras for just about a thousand dollars a piece. Call it being really picky about quality. I can however give you some of the brand names that I'd be serious about when it comes to digital photography. Sony IS a big one that comes to mind when I think true digital style. Lot of times overpriced due to more bells and whistles than possibly needed for true photography. The two brands that I fought over when buying my latest in the end of March was Canon and Nikon. I had used Sony and wanted something that was still digital, yet was an SLR style of taking shots like an old 35mm. My father had used Nikon and Canon, but had a 500mm lens and a film version of the Rebel, so I kind of leaned that way. But the more and more I seen columns and posts about the comparison between the Canon Digital Rebel/300D vs the Nikon D70 I find more lean toward the D70. I am very happy with the Rebel and often see work by both upon this site that truly kick butt. So I would first take a look at a few models that are at the "big" electronic stores.. e.g. Best Buy, Circuit City.. etc, etc. Then maybe even some nearby camera shops, because you'll find they now have digi's to compete with the exploding market. You'll get helpful tips on who to go with from where ever you go to. "Big" store reps will tell you who they sell the most of, while the camera shops will give you who and why. I'd then narrow it down to a few(with being able to try them out at most place) and then look online to find info and ratings and columns with feedback. It really helps to sway your decision. Remember with that and all things, you're going to always have mixed reviews, so don't drop dead after falling in love with one and taking a look online and seeing one or two bad reviews on it. That will happen and believe me, it does when it's someone who's bias towards a certain brand. I hope this helps. Don't rack your brain too hard with trying to find one but it never hurts to make sure you got one that suits your needs and wants.. one that won't come apart when you first press click. I shall shut up now.

Lol, now i know that some big price items have a season when it's better to buy, Is this true with cameras, taking into consideration that i bet they don't drop in price during summer vacation time.

Yet another point to the consideration. It's true X-mas is always going to bring better deals due to the season. The flip side to that is most places run out fast of what's cheaper and more popular. I bought my Sony in early January 2002, and I really never paid much attention to others at the time. I knew I had to have this one. I happen to buy my Canon in late March, so I guess with the more expensive cameras you'll find deals, but not really too many buyers. Although I have to say that the Canon was sold out really fast the first time I was to buy it. I had to come back. I have always gone to the stores that sell digi's to see what's new and exciting. Right after X-mas their racks are uasually empty like Mother Hubbard's cupboard, and it takes a pretty good time to get restocked. I'd say if you're like me, there's no time like the present. Especially with the season being so beautiful. But the truly best time I believe would be in late October/early November, when they're getting restocked along with newer ones for the mad rush. Also, if you're not like me and can deal with waiting in line on the day after Thanksgiving then you'll probably make out like a bandit, with the best deals. But don't forget the research too.

20/20 vision. I love anything that "looks cool". I try to grab a shot, than digitally alter it to make it special.. mainly because I would have no idea how to. I give props to those that can do that and use their imaginations to conjure up such incredible work. Thank you very much for enjoying my work. I really enjoy yours.

I realy love when people use that long exposure...I just donΒ΄t know how to use it...

I was thinking of buying a Nikon, so I know you have a good camera. Really, the best way of learning how to find things out about your camera like how use the long exposure, I hit the internet search engines. I hate manuals too. Badly. It's like Japanese to me. Internet will have usually at a few descriptions of use. It's also neat finding camera ratings and sample pictures. Hope that helps in any way and thank you so much for your comments and for faving Fog shine-sprayed trees.

man, i wish my long exposures looked something like this. unfortunately, most of the time i just don't have a tripod for it and end up getting out of focus brilliance. this right here is damn killer, and props to you for not shrinking it down to appease the DA masses. its an image that needs to be beheld at full size.

I totally appreciate the fact that you don't like "shrinkage" either. I feel as though it ruins work and takes value out of what it stands for. Sharing beauty. Stamps to me look too commercial and takes away what you're truly looking at.. the art. Although I don't want my work stolen, I love to hear when someone places it upon their desktop. As far as my tripod goes, it goes everywhere with me. It's in my trunk. I'd be doomed if I didn't have it. I'm even thinking buying another one for security. Thank you so very much for your awesome comments.

It really helps in these cases to have a tripod. Especially with any kind of shutter delay. Sometimes using a tripod and the shutter delay you can make some really great camera effects. My piece titled "On the bridge in thought" was nothing but a cool background and me not correcting my white balance with the city lights to nab this shot. I really want to thank you for enjoying and faving and your comments on Fog shine-sprayed trees.

To be honest, I had to use an 8 second shutter delay and a tripod to come close to capture what I was seeing. I keep my tripod in my car at all times. This way I personally don't ruin the shot I want. Thank you for your comments.

Like I've told others, this was one I was planning to get for a while when I first laid eyes on it in fog. That time it had been a real low rolling fog. I was not ready and missed it. This time it was all up in the air like a traditional fog. So I nabbed it. Thank you so very much for the and the comments.

Vonawes In reply to alpenglow [2004-05-27 05:06:40 +0000 UTC]

I needed shutter delay on a tripod to be able to get what I was seeing. Especially being at night. The image I saw originally was too amazing to miss a second time. The first time the fog was only on the ground and making a rolling effect. Just beautiful. Like a ghostly cemetary. This time the fog was normal. I have paid a thousand for both my cameras, mainly because I'm nuts, but I don't see why you wouldn't have the delay on yours. Even if not, you should be proud of the beautiful pictures you've captured without it. If you're using a plain jane camera, that speaks volumes on your eye for photography alone.

alpenglow In reply to Vonawes [2004-05-27 07:54:21 +0000 UTC]

shutter delays? oh goodie, new terms. Maybe I can fiddle around with my cam some more. I just got it for my birthday so I'm quite ignorant really. I'm *thinks* 11 days experienced lol I love rolling effects. My friend and I tried to to capture it the other day but we ended up with *perfect pictures*. You know, the boring ones where the rolling effects get eliminated through the process. I would pay a bunch for cameras too if only 1) i got the money (given) and 2) the skills to use it. So far, I'm more than happy with what I have. I learn something new everyday. Maybe I should go explore more often...walking around the neighbourhood won't bring me many great pictures. Maybe a ghostly cemetary like place could snag me one day lol

I understand exactly what you mean by not finding much in just your own neighborhood. The funny thing is, when I come on here I'll uasually find at least one example of one finding the photo where I wouldn't of. Maybe even making something out of nothing. Take for instance "NatureStrikesBack"
A deviation by ~hirnfunk, May 25, 2004. This picture is as simple as it gets, yet it's so brilliant. I was blown away by it. I'm the kind of photographer who needs the image to slap me across the face, to realize. I don't have the eye for seeing like those on this site. It inspires the heck out of me to just go out there and snap away.
