Adderkit woke up from a dreamless sleep. Her sister Fawnkit was still sleeping. It was early morning. Adderkit walked up to the edge of the nursery to watch the sunrise. She smiled as the sunlight made her chamagne colored fur shine. The sun warmed her. Adderkit noticed Owlkit was also still asleep. Fawnkit walked over to me.
"Isn't it a beautiful morning," said Fawnkit.
"Yes, it is," replied Adderkit.
"It's less then a moon till we're six moons," said Fawnkit.
"Yeah," replied Adderkit.
"I can't believe it's so close," said Fawnkit. Adderkit nodded. Fawnkit smiled and jumped on top of Adderkit. They play fought together and rolled around, laughing. Adderkit ran around as Fawnkit chased her.
"Can't catch me," said Adderkit.
"Oh, yeah," said Fawnkit leaping toward Adderkit. Adderkit moved out of the way as Fawnkit landed on her paws. Fawnkit started to run. She was on Adderkit's tail. Adderkit suddenly did a sharp tun around and leaped over her sister. Adderkit landed on her paws.
"Nice jump," said Fawnkit smiling. Fawnkit padded over to Adderkit.
"Thanks," replied Adderkit. They looked outside of the nursery as the warriors and apprentices were going out of the dens. Every once in a while one would mew a hello to them. Soon enough Owlkit woke up and sat beside them.
"Hi Owlkit," mewed Adderkit.
"Hi Adderkit. Hi Fawnkit," said Owlkit.
"Hi," mewed Fawnkit. It didn't take long for the warriors and apprentices to come in with the fresh kill. Our moms for some reason want us to eat fresh kill until we're apprentices.
"I can't wait until I'm an apprentice. Then, we can eat some fresh kill," said Fawnkit. Day after day this went on. Then, it was only a few days til they were six moons.
"Only three more days," said Owlkit. All of them play fought for two of those days. Then, came the day before them being six moons.
"I can't believe this. Time has gone by so fast," exclaimed Adderkit.
"Yeah," said Owlkit. They all happily played chase together. By the end of the day they were so tired they fell asleep quickly. The next morning they all watched the sunrise. It was late morning and the sun was high. "All warriors old enough to catch their own prey come gather at the high rock for a clan meeting," called Scorchstar. Then, our queens pushed us out of the nursery. Scorchstar motioned us to come by the high rock.
"Adderkit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is time for you to be apprenticed. From this day on until you receive your warrior name, you three will be know as Adderpaw. Your mentor will be Snakefeather. I hope Snakefeather will pass down all he knows on to you." said Scorchstar before looking at Snakefeather and saying, "Snakefeather, you are ready to take on an apprentice. You have received excellent training from Leapordheart, and you have shown yourself to be brave and loyal. You will be the mentor of Adderpaw, and I expect you to pass on all you know to Adderpaw." Adderpaw and Snakefeather touched noses and then Owlkit and Fawnkit were apprenticed. The cats at the meeting called out their names. Then, their mentors lead us to the apprentice den.
"Wow. So, cool," exclaimed Fawnpaw.
"Yeah," agreed Adderpaw and Owlpaw. There were two other apprentices in there. They had been apprenticed a moon ago.
"Tomorrow we all begin training," said Adderpaw.
That night we fell asleep in the apprentice den, excited for our first day of training.
