Chapter 7
When I woke up I felt a sudden sting in my arm and my side and I hissed in pain. My other hand moved to the side that was in pain and I bit my lip. The last thing I could remember was blacking out just seconds before meeting my doom in the water, and someone taking me into their arms right before that.
“So, I see you’ve finally woken up,” I heard a voice say and I sat up so suddenly that my side stung badly.
“Ow,” I hissed looking at Kai. “What…. happened?” Then, I looked around, realizing where we were, and my eyes widened. Kai was about to answer when he saw the look on my face and looked down at the ground as he saw on the stone, a look of apology on his face. We- no I was back in the nether… This was the room I was put in for when I was taken here, the place I escaped.
“What are we doing here?” I demanded, my eyes with a mix of anger and worry. He looked up at me, an apologetic look in his eyes.
“Well?” I asked.
“I’m sorry. But you being here is for your safety,” he told me. My eyes narrowed at him wondering what he meant by that. My safety? I should’ve recognized how warm it is here. I questioned in my head.
“I know you’re mad at me. But it’s true,” he said.
“How is this place safe for me? It’s a prison,” I shot back at him my anger sparking. His eyes suddenly widened.
“Wh- what is it?” I asked.
“Your eyes. They just flashed red for a few seconds,” he said, his eyes with worry in them. Then, he muttered something under his breath that I couldn’t pick up.
“But back to subject why or how is this place safe for me. It’s a prison to me. You don’t know how long I was trapped here,” I told him, my voice getting louder with each word. My hand curled up into a fist, this places heat was making my temper shorter than normal.
“I-I can’t tell you,” he whispered, looking at the ground.
“Why?” I demanded, nails beginning to dig into my hand. When he didn’t give me an answer after many moments of silence I charged him about to punch him. But he reacted faster than I thought he would. Suddenly he moved out of my way and pushed me against the wall, a diamond sword up near my throat. My hand went to my side at the pain of the shock of my back hitting the wall going to my side. I looked up to see Kai’s eyes looking right into mine.
“Sorry, but it’s because it’ll bring back memories that neither of us probably want to remember,” he said quietly, his eyes narrowed at me, a hint of warning in them. He took the sword away from my throat and backed away from me, turning away. My eyes widened as realization hit me.
“Y- You know me from my past?” I asked, a bit of both fear and excitement going through me.
“Yeah,” he whispered. “I known you for a long time Scarlet, longer than you can remember for now.” Then, I realized what he meant by that last part. Not all of my memories were back. He knew them or at least some of them.
“I-I can take my own memories. They need to come back to me. If I don’t know my own past how will I know who to trust?” I asked him. He was about to answer when I heard an explosion and came to me feet alongside Kai.
“That wasn’t a ghast…” I whispered and he nodded. He grabbed my wrist and began to run.
“I should’ve known they were close when your eyes flashed like that,” he said. Where could they be? I wondered. Then, something flew through the window and hit Kai in the leg. He hissed in pain as he slowed down. I pulled my hand from his wrist and knelt down beside him, looking at the arrow implanted in his leg.
“Shoot,” he whispered. Then, he grabbed the clenched his teeth and pulled out the arrow, making a small cry of pain beneath his teeth, before tossing it to the side. My eyes widened. But then, in seconds, it happened. A bunch of people in black jackets came in, the shadows covering their identity as five of them ran and grabbed Kai’s wrists and pulled them behind his back.
“Kai!” I called. Then, one of the other four walked up to me. He pulled off his hood and I saw it was Blake. His blond hair and brown eyes were unmistakable as he stood before me, a look of worry on his face.
“You okay Scarlet?” he asked.
“Y-Yeah,” I said. “What are you doing here and why is Kai being held?”
“I’ll explain that later. But I’ll just tell you that you can’t trust him. He was lying to you. All he’s trying to do is keep you trapped-” he began before Kai cut him off.
“Scarlet, don’t listen to him! I’m telling the tru-” he began saying. But one of the men holding him gagged him and I heard muffles before looking at him and then back at Blake. On one side I had a person who had helped me from this place who’s saying the other, that has apparently known me for a long time, is lying. I didn’t know what to do, whether to go with Blake or try to help Kai.
“So, are you going to come with me, the one who saved you from being trapped here?” he asked. “Or are you going to believe the person who is deceiving you, and trying to keep you trapped here forever?” A slight smile came onto his face and I glanced at Kai's eyes, pleading in them, before looking back at Blake. I have to go with my instinct. I thought before I made my next move...
