I'm not actually that great. I mostly just use linearts, color them, and make backgrounds using adobe photoshop cs.

No. You go to professer oak's lab after getting all badges in kanto and johto. Then, you can get one of the three starter pokemon from kanto and hoenn as well as rock climb I believe.
