Description Abstract but not quite, snapshot but not quite, dynamic but still... frozen yet warm, graphical but with depth, stealth but very visible.

I took it a few hours ago on the beach. Mamaia ( cleopatra ) -> Constanta -> ROMANIA -> Europe.

super poza, din thumbnail credeam ca e o pana neagra, dar nu sunt dezamagit
si griul ala din rama e cam aiurea...

gri e si pasarea. Albul ar fi scos totul prea inchis, negru ar fi anulat oarecum pasarea.. iar rosu e bun doar acolo in imagine. Deci gri. Si e 50% ca sa fie impartial. Poate ar fi mers mai deschis.. da' oricum nu conteaza.

asa faceam in 2002 .. (vezi galeria) Dar acum pun la aproape tot rama. Oricum, spre exemplu print-ul 100x100 cm nu are nici un fel de rama. E pe suport gros de 1cm si fara nimic altceva (decat agatatoare pe spate ) Dar asta e alta poveste. pe dA ma joc doar

yesterday I tried to take a photo of a similar bird taking off from a lamp post. The bird didn't take off upward as I thought. Instead it just dove off using its weight to catch the air under the wings and only after that it went up.. So all I got now is a lamp post and the tip of the wings below it..

Keep trying! That's the trick!

sorry, i hate to speak poorly of a DD, lest i bring scorn upon my own work and those of my peers, but the quality of this image is doubtful. The grain betrays the low quality digital camera it was taken with, and the concept of the shot is mediocre at best. It just doesnt grab me at all. I know of so many other fantastic photographers who take incredible photos of birds in flight, etc, and don't get a mention.
Anyway, congrats on a DD. I can't argue with that.

The camera is a 7 mpixel digital. The photo is not in the conceptual category, therefore not the concept is important. It's not supposed to be poetic or something. The whole deal is about the image itself. It's normal not to like it I guess. It depends on personal preferences. I'm sorry I don't own a 39 Mpixel camera with a superfast shutterspeed and no noise on large ISO, but hey! What can I do?! I'm just happy that I caught this one and the light helped me get what I wanted. Anyway, *THEDOC4 said one needs very bright light in order to catch birds in flight without any noise or blur. And I think no one can question him when it comes to photos of birds. I'm not trying to do some "National Geographic" photos anyway. If that's what you look, try their website.

not landing either. This one is taking off. I got too close and it flew away. And it wasn't frozen water. It's just snow on the beach. In December we had lots of snow.

this kind of birds are taking off harder than seaguls or other sea-birds. They're not used to the winds on the beach and they need to "paddle" harder. This makes them better models for pictures
